Abstract:

Founded in 1873, the Knights of the Golden Eagle is a fraternal organization with rituals based on those of the Crusaders with emphasis placed on the word of the Bible. In addition to giving moral and intellectual guidance, the society provides relief to sick or unemployed members and gives survivor benefits to widows and orphans. The Lansdale, Pennsylvania chapter of the Knights of the Golden Eagle, Castle No. 244, was established in 1888. The Knights of the Golden Eagle, Castle No. 244 (Lansdale, Pa.) minute books, 1888-1946, consist of eight volumes.

The First National Bank of Lansdale was chartered in 1864 with $100,000 in capital. On February 20, 1954, it was absorbed by the Philadelphia National Bank. The First National Bank of Lansdale ledger and discount books, 1864-1900, consist of one ledger with indexes, 1899-1900, and two discount books that cover the years 1864 to 1873.

Abstract:

Lansdale, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania became a boom town during the mid-19th century when a junction of the North Pennsylvania Railroad was established where the center of the town is now located. The Borough of Lansdale was incorporated on August 24, 1872. This collection is comprised of real estate valuations of the borough for school taxation purposes, 1878-1920 with several years missing.
