Abstract:
Genealogical and biographical documents for Anne Williams Kierstead, BMC 1943, and her mother, Helen Elizabeth Jones Williams, BMC 1906. Included are: letters from Kierstead to her family while she taught and traveled in Turkey in the late 1940's, a diary and an autobiographical account of Williams' travel in Europe during the outbreak of WWI, and a genealogy of the family compiled by Kierstead in 1976.

Abstract:
Karl Detlev Jessen (1872-1919) was a professor of German Literature at Bryn Mawr College from 1910 to 1919. He was involved with the Socialist movement in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The Karl D. Jessen papers house the records of Karl D. Jessen. This collection dates from 1872 to 1980, with bulk dates of 1890 to 1917. This collection consists mostly of correspondence between Jessen and his family, friends, and colleagues, in addition to manuscripts and manuscript drafts, clippings, scrapbooks, bibliography cards of Jessen's research, and other ephemera.

The Conversational Club of Norristown is a women's education club founded in 1885 that continues to meet today whose purpose is the "Study of History, Literature, and Art, and the promotion of intelligent thought and conversation." The collection of the club's papers consists of records of the meetings and activities of the club from 1885 to 2013 primarily in the forms of minutes, programs, correspondence, and other sources collected by the club.

Dorothy Foster papers, 1902-1904 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Dorothy Foster was a student at Bryn Mawr from 1900-1904. The papers consist of her letters written by Foster to her mother, Genevieve Stimpson, during her junior and senior years of college (1902-1904). The letters primarily concern her school work, her duties as class president, news about the college, guests she hosted, and lectures she attended. They are arranged in folders by date, with the exception of the first folder of miscellaneous items including academic records and an essay about May Day. Dorothy Foster was born in 1883 in Salem, Massachusetts, daughter of Genevieve Stimpson and James M. Foster. She majored in English and Philosophy and held the offices of Senior Class President in '04, secretary to the Philosophy Club in '03- '04, and membership in the English Club in '03-'04. After Bryn Mawr, Foster earned an A. M. in English Literature from Radcliffe in 1908 and did further graduate work at Harvard from 1913-1914. Her field of interest was Restoration and...(see more)

Abstract:
Elizabeth Congdon graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1902. She was a passionate horticulturalist and directed Food Conservation and Victory Garden efforts in Alleghany County, Pennsylvania during both world wars. The Elizabeth Congdon scrapbook collection houses Congdon's two scrapbooks. The scrapbooks, which cover 1898-1901 and 1901-1902 respectively, document Congdon's social life at Bryn Mawr, as well as many off-campus events.

Elizabeth Anna Harlan scrapbook, 1904-1909 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Elizabeth Anna Harlan graduated from Bryn Mawr College in 1909 with a major in English. After graduation, she acted as the president of the Visiting Nurses Association of Coatesville. She served 25 years as a board member of Coatesville Hospital. She was also highly involved with the Coatesville Presbyterian Church throughout her life. She had one adopted daughter. Harlan died in 1972. The Elizabeth Anna Harlan scrapbook houses the scrapbook and some other ephemera of Harlan's. The collection ranges from 1904-1909.

Jeannie Colston Howard scrapbook, 1897-1911 (inclusive) 1897-1901 (bulk)

Abstract:
Jeannie Colston Howard was born in Richmond, Virginia on December 23, 1878. She attended Bryn Mawr College, graduating in 1901. After graduation, she taught at Shipley School and St. Margaret's. From 1905-1918, she was a teacher and then principal at Stuart Hall. Howard later pursued her masters in Latin at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1926. She was a member of Colonial Dames. Howard passed away in 1968. The Jeannie Colston Howard scrapbook contains Howard's one volume scrapbook. The scrapbook covers Howard's years at Bryn Mawr, from 1897 to 1901, and contains mostly personal correspondence, calling cards and invitations.

Elsie Kohn Rauh scrapbook, 1901-1902 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Elsie Kohn was born November 25, 1881. She attended Bryn Mawr College, graduating in 1904. She married Aaron S. Rauh in 1908 and had three children. Kohn was a civic leader who was extremely involved in the women's suffrage movement. She was one of the founders of the League of Women Voters and was also active in Planned Parenthood. Kohn died March 27th, 1972. The Elsie Kohn Rauh scrapbook contains Kohn's one volume scrapbook from her first two years at Bryn Mawr, 1900-1902. Kohn left Bryn Mawr in 1902 to care for her mother, so in addition to the typical memorabilia, this scrapbook also contains letters from friends regarding her decision to leave.

Tirzah Nichols scrapbook, 1892-1902 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Tirzah Nichols attended the Friends' Central School in Philadelphia, as well as Miss Florence Baldwin's School in Bryn Mawr (now called The Baldwin School). She was a member of Bryn Mawr College's class of 1896, graduating with degrees in History and Political Science. After graduation, she returned to Miss Baldwin's School, this time as a science teacher (1896-1906). She later became a teacher of Culture of the Speaking Voice and a librarian at Miss Baldwin's School, which had then been renamed The Baldwin School (1906-1917). The Tirzah Nichols scrapbook contains Nichols' one volume scrapbook. The scrapbook spans the years from 1892 to 1902 and contains a lot of material, mostly musical programs and Bryn Mawr memorabilia. It provides useful insight into Bryn Mawr at the turn of the century.

Mary Ayer (Rousmaniere) diary, 1897-1900 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Mary Ayer was a member of Bryn Mawr's class of 1901. While at college, Ayer was involved in varsity basketball, Mandolin and Banjo Club, and class plays. After graduating from Bryn Mawr, Ayer pursued graduated studies at Radcliffe (1901-1902) and Simmons College (1905-1906). In 1910, she married John Rousmaniere, a graduate of Harvard Law School. Ayer died in 1954. Ayer's one volume diary spans her freshman through junior years at college, from 1897-1900. However, only the first two of these were spent at Bryn Mawr; Ayer passed her junior year at Radcliffe College before returning to Bryn Mawr for her senior year. Ayer's diary offers insight into student athletics and academics, social life, and variations between Bryn Mawr and Radcliffe.
