Abstract:: Julius Caesar Marsella (1913-1965) and his father Ercole Marsella (1887-1941) were proprietors of a photography studio in Norristown, Pennsylvania. The Marsella Photo Studio photographs, 1896-1968 [bulk 1950-1968], depict local businesses, colleges, churches, residences, people, etc.

Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area subject files, circa 1850-2013

Extent:: 53.0 linear feet
Abstract:: Phoenixville, which was incorporated as a borough in 1849 in Chester County, Pennsylvania, evolved from an early 18th century village. The history of the town largely mirrored the history of the Phoenix Iron Company which became hugely successful in the mid-19th century with the advent of the railroad. The Historical Society of the Phoenixville Area subject files, circa 1850-2013, consist primarily of photocopied primary-source documents, newspaper clippings, and research articles that relate to numerous aspects of Phoenixville's history. It also contains a fair amount of original documents, principally pamphlets, small printed works, and ephemera, as well as some photographs, deeds, and manuscript pages. The collection is organized into series and subseries by subject; the largest series are Genealogy and Phoenix Iron Company / Phoenix Steel Company.

Rising Sun Inn property records, 1812-1993 (inclusive)

Abstract:: In 1764, Abraham Wentz built a public house on Skippack Pike in Blue Bell, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Rising Sun Inn was a wayside tavern, but also served as a public space for political discussion and commerce. The building was converted to a residence, and then remodeled as office space from about 1985-1991. The Rising Sun Inn property records, 1812-1993, were collected by the first office tenant, Richard T. Claus of Delmarva Inc. Chemicals. The collection includes original deeds, historic survey data, and remodeling plans.

Mary Lincoln Council No. 168, Daughters of America (Lansdale, Pa.) minutes and officers' roll books, 1934-1973 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Daughters of America, still believed to be in existence, is a secret, nativist society dating from the late 19th century. The society, which was only open to white women of "good moral character," promotes extreme patriotism, the public school system, and the reading of the Bible in schools. The Lansdale, Pennsylvania chapter of the Daughters of America, Mary Lincoln Council No. 168, opened in 1934. The Mary Lincoln Council No. 168, Daughters of America (Lansdale, Pa.) minutes and officers' roll books consist of five minute books, 1934-1973 (with some gaps), and two officer's roll books, 1946-1966.

Abstract:: The Russell Byerley Memorial World War II Letters Collection, 1941-1945, consists of original letters and photographs of service men and women whose homes were in Lower Merion Township or the Borough of Narberth. These letters and photographs were sent during the war to Mr. Russell Byerley, a woodshop teacher at Lower Merion Senior High School in Ardmore, Pennsylvania.

Abstract:: The township of Lower Merion in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania was first settled by Welsh Quakers in 1682. It is part of the "Main Line," a collection of affluent Philadelphia suburbs located alongside the Pennsylvania Railroad line that was built between Philadelphia and Harrisburg in the mid-19th century. The Main Line Country Houses Collection, circa 1900-2003, consists of over 800 photographs and fact sheets on over 150 properties. The materials were collected by William Alan Morrison for his 2002 book The Main Line: Country Houses of Philadelphia's Storied Suburb, 1870-1930.

LMHS.13: Boy Scout Troop Bala One photographs, 1941-1998 (inclusive)

Abstract:: By some accounts, the Boy Scout troop in Bala, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania is the oldest in the country. Formed in 1908, it was officially inducted into the Boy Scouts of America in 1911 as Troop 16. Troop Bala One photographs, 1941-1998, depict the troop at various events, primarily the 50th anniversary celebration in 1961. The collection also includes photocopies of Boy Scout ephemera.

Abstract:: The township of Lower Merion in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania was first settled by Welsh Quakers in 1682. It is part of the "Main Line," a collection of affluent Philadelphia suburbs located alongside the Pennsylvania Railroad line that was built between Philadelphia and Harrisburg in the mid-19th century. "The First 300" photograph collection, 1890-2000, is composed of photographs (mostly reproductions with some originals) that were used in the Lower Merion Historical Society's published book The First 300: The Amazing and Rich History of Lower Merion. There are also some photocopies of secondary source materials that were used in researching the book.

Abstract:: Dr. Douglas Macfarlan (1887-1966) was a resident of Ardmore, Pennsylvania, and a physician. He was also an avid local historian who served as president of the Lower Merion Historical Society, and contributed articles and drawings to Main Line Times in addition to publishing several historical monographs. The Notes and Drawings by Dr. Douglas Macfarlan, 1937-1964, consist of research notes, newspaper clippings, copies of articles, and original and copied photographs for various historical monographs by Macfarlan.

LMHS.19: Lower Merion Realty Company minute book, photographs, and brochures, circa 1880-1952

Abstract:: At the turn of the 20th century, the Roberts family of Lower Merion, Pennsylvania decided to consolidate its remaining farm land and form the Lower Merion Realty Company. The company successfully developed land along a new train line, conveniently constructed under the direction of Pennsylvania Railroad president George Brooke Roberts. The collection "Lower Merion Realty Company minute book, photographs, and brochures, circa 1880-1952," contains the minute book of meetings of Stockholders and Directors, 1906-1952, and one binder of photographs with two brochures.
