Abstract:: The Cox, Ross, and Robinson families were important Pennsylvania families active in early Philadelphia and Bucks Counties, and later in the development of Hatboro in Montgomery County. The Cox-Robinson-Ross family papers, 1669-1980, include letters, financial and property records, business papers, photographs, scrapbooks, architectural drawings, and research materials documenting several generations.

Abstract:: Winfield S. Hancock (1824-1886) was a decorated Union General in the Civil War, and a native of Norristown, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Historical Society of Montgomery County Winfield S. Hancock collection, 1841-1995, includes papers from Winfield S. Hancock and his family members, as well as more recent materials relating to Hancock's tomb. The papers directly stemming from Winfield S. Hancock include letters and account books, and were primarily collected by Gen. Hancock's friend and attorney Benjamin E. Chain.

Abstract:: Joseph Fornance (1804-1852) was a Democratic member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Norristown, Pennsylvania. Like the elder Joseph, his son Joseph Fornance (1841-1923) and grandson Joseph Knox Fornance (1882-1965) were lawyers involved with politics. The Fornance family papers, 1794-1989, is an extensive collection of correspondence, ledgers, diaries, photograph albums, scrapbooks, and documents covering several generations of one family. Family members were involved in numerous matters over more than one-and-a-half centuries, so among other subjects, there is rich documentation of military service during the Civil War and World War I, the election of Woodrow Wilson, and early efforts at historic preservation (the Fornance family home is considered the oldest in Norristown).

Abstract:: George Washington Holstein, M.D., was a prominent citizen of Bridgeport in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He was at times a burgess, postmaster, and school director. He was a Civil War veteran and long-time member of the Odd Fellows. The George W. Holstein family papers, 1817-1927, consist primarily of Dr. Holstein's journals, notebooks, essays, and correspondence. There are also some journals and papers from other family members.

Abstract:: The Grand Army of the Republic was a fraternal organization of Civil War veterans. A post in Conshocken, named in honor of George Smith, was organized in 1867. The George Smith Post No. 79, Grand Army of the Republic photographs and "Personal War Sketches" consist of about three-dozen photographs and one volume. The photographs are all identified portraits of Civil War veterans. In the volume of "Personal War Sketches," veterans recorded their mustering dates, rank, and sometimes personal narratives of their experiences.

Abstract:: Samuel Whitaker Pennypacker (1843-1916) served as governor of Pennsylvania from 1903-1907. A prominent Philadelphia lawyer, judge, and president of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania from 1900 to 1916, Pennypacker also authored more than ninety books and publications. The Samuel W. Pennypacker family papers at Pennypacker Mills, 1821-1980, is a well documented collection that reflects the interests of Samuel W. Pennypacker, his term as governor of Pennsylvania, the construction of the State Capitol, Pennsylvania history, family history, and Pennsylvania German culture. Pennypacker's papers include more than 25,000 letters received by Pennypacker, copybooks containing more than 13,000 letters he wrote, his notes and writings on his family genealogy, and documents Samuel collected for autographs, including more than 300 deeds of eastern Pennsylvania dating from 1682 to 1915. Abstract:: The Pottstown Historical Society wars collection, 1862-1898, is comprised of documents relating to the Civil War and the Spanish-American War. The Civil War records include muster rolls, clothing accounts, invoices, descriptive lists, and photographs, as well as two volumes of veterans' reminiscences. The Spanish-American War papers include photographs, a scrapbook, and research materials.
