Abstract:: Montgomery County, situated in southeastern Pennsylvania and established in 1784 out of the western portion of Philadelphia County, has played an important role in U.S. history. Since its founding, it has experienced "booming industry and manufacturing, rich farm fields, advanced transportation, artistic endeavors and unique religious beliefs." The history of the area of eastern Montgomery County has been documented significantly through the collecting efforts of the Old York Road Historical Society. The Old York Road Historical Society photograph collection, circa 1890-2010, consists of various photographs acquired by the Society at various times. The bulk of the photographs are arranged by municipality and then subject. There are also several named sub-collections as well as a collection of real photo postcards.

Abstract:: Walter D. Ellis was an amateur photographer and the first licensed taxidermist in Pennsylvania. The Walter D. Ellis photographs, 1900-1925, consist of about 100 images, glass plate negatives and prints, depicting landscapes, family groups (apparently recent immigrants), and residents of eastern Montgomery County.

Abstract:: The Cheltenham Police Department, established in 1903, is as of 2013 the third largest Police Department in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Cheltenham Police Department photographs, 1909-1922, consist of approximately 5,000 glass plate negatives, film negatives and a few prints, and contains official police department photographs of accident and crime scenes, mug shots, corpse and autopsy images, and fingerprints. Portions of this collection are restricted.

Abstract:: Both John W. Ridpath (a Jenkintown pharmacist, newspaper publisher, and borough government official) and his son, William M. Ridpath (an engineer), were amateur photographers. The John W. and William M. Ridpath photographs, 1890-1935, consist mostly of glass plate negatives, with some contact prints and (film) slides created later. John W. Ridpath's photographs include local scenes of eastern Montgomery County as well as some domestic scenes of late Victorian home-life. William M. Ridpath's photographs document his work on the construction of the Panama Canal as well as aspects of life in Panama.

Abstract:: Harry J. Utzy, Jr. (1908-1992) was a commercial, portrait, and news photographer active in the Jenkintown area. The Harry J. Utzy, Jr., photographs, 1926-1985, contain approximately 20,000 glass negatives, original film negatives, and prints that largely document the area of Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. Also included are photographic prints documenting the newly-constructed Alaska Highway (1943).

Abstract:: The John B. Harper glass negatives, circa 1890-1920, consist of about 300 glass plate negatives donated by John B. Harper. The photographer is unknown. About ten of the images are of local scenes in the vicinity of eastern Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The remainder depict unidentified people and sites.

Abstract:: William H. Sliker was a professional photographer based in Bridesburg (Philadelphia, Pa.) who took street scene and building photographs throughout the region, many images being printed as real photo postcards. The William H. Sliker photographs, 1905-1915, contain about 270 glass negatives of views in Huntingdon Valley (Montgomery County, Pa.), Southampton (Bucks County, Pa.), and Frankford and Bridesburg (Philadelphia, Pa.).
