Abstract:
This volume traces the life of Frederic Carter, Surgeon-Major 1st Gurkha Regiment at Dharmsala, India. The diary spans from July 1867 through March 1883 where Carter documents his life in India, Pakistan, and England. Highlights of the journal include Carter's experiences in the Bengal army, his travels throughout India and Pakistan, managing an agricultural estate in India, his marriage and birth of his children, and a brief memoir discussing his childhood.

Abstract:
The Veale family was British, but because of jobs in the military, spent much of their time abroad. This collection largely concerns Henry Richard Lobb Veale (1831-1908), an army physician, and his son Sidney Veale Byland (1873-1899), a lieutenant in the Indian Staff Corps. Material includes inventories of possessions; a sketchbook, possibly created by Bertha Veale (daughter of Henry and sister to Sidney); and letters sent to Henry Veale from a patient, William Aitken, as well as his son, Sidney, during his military service in India.

Harold A. Budke World War II photograph album of India, 1945-1946 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Captain Harold A. Budke was a medic in the United States Army, posted in Calcutta from 1945 to 1946. The photographs in his album document his experiences from his trip to Calcutta, to his service with the United States Army Dispensary, to his day-to-day experiences in the city, and to his work preparing the U.S.S. Marine Panther to transport GI's and patients from India in early 1946.
