Abstract:
S.A. Wheeler may have been a Scottish member of the British Air Force posted in India during World War II. This collection is composed of two volumes of photos taken in India between 1942 and 1945, likely by S.A. Wheeler. A majority of the photographs capture local scenes of the market, the landscape and the people, mostly in Lahore and Dehli but also on trips he took in the region. The volumes also contain some newspaper clippings, stamps, paper money and other mementos.

Marcia J. Frost research collection relating to Gujarat, 1933-2020 (inclusive) 1975-2020 (bulk)

Abstract:
This research collection primarily contains Gujarat village records collected from the mamlatdar record offices in the mid-1970s by economics professor Marcia J. Frost, whose research focused on the economic history of Gujarat territories. Village officials prepared kalambandhis (annual talati accounts) and moje jarif (village registers from the revenue survey) during the first decade of British rule in western India. These cover a wide range of topics including population and animal censuses, village revenue and expenditures, land tenures and use, village history and customs. Frost collected these records for her dissertation study of the economic history of the Gujarat territories under the East India Company administration in the early 19th century.

Captain Harold A. Budke was a medic in the United States Army, posted in Calcutta from 1945 to 1946. The photographs in his album document his experiences from his trip to Calcutta, to his service with the United States Army Dispensary, to his day-to-day experiences in the city, and to his work preparing the U.S.S. Marine Panther to transport GI's and patients from India in early 1946.

Robert and Barbara Barlow (Bob and Babs) traveled to India from 1943 to 1945. It is unclear from the volume if the Barlows were visiting India as a result of service during World War II or if they were traveling for pleasure. The album, titled "Street Scenes in India" provides no hints to who the Barlows were or why they were in India, but contains photographs of the various sights (both architectural and cultural) found during their stay.
