Abstract:: Under the Home Rule Charter and Optional Plans Law (Act 62) of 1972, for the first time in Pennsylvania history, local governments were authorized to change their governmental structure upon voter approval. The Government Study Commission of Delaware County began meeting in July 1973. The home rule charter they drafted went into effect in January of 1976, making Delaware County the first in the state of Pennsylvania to become a home rule county. The Government Study Commission of Delaware County records, 1973-1975, consist of papers originating with or consulted by the Delaware County Government Study Commission. It includes the minutes, correspondence, press releases, and other records of the commission, as well as publications on governmental structures consulted by the commissioners during the course of their work, and drafts of the home rule charter they wrote.

Abstract:: The City of Chester in Delaware County is the oldest city in Pennsylvania. It was settled by Swedish immigrants in 1644, incorporated as a borough in 1701, and incorporated as a city in 1866. The Chester City Council meeting minutes, 1970-1979, cover the years leading up to Chester's passage of a new home rule charter in 1980.

Abstract:: A resident of Tinicum, Delaware County, Pennsylvania for most of his life, William R. "Bill" Wasch served as a Tinicum Township Commissioner for about a decade (1997-2007). He was a member of the Republican Party whose priorities included preventing the expansion of the Philadelphia International Airport into Tinicum, maintaining low real estate taxes, and generally working for the improvement of the township. The Bill Wasch township commission papers, 1982-2007 (bulk 1997-2007), consist of various materials directly related to the activities and functions of the Tinicum Township Commissioners, as well as materials from other township boards and departments and items pertaining to other topics of special interest to Wasch. Abstract:: Settled in the early 1700s and incorporated in 1893, the Borough of Lansdowne, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, has a rich industrial and commercial history. Located just six miles from the center of Philadelphia, the town became a haven for middle-class families beginning in the early 20th century as well as a popular design location for the area's best architects, including renowned Philadelphia architect Frank Furness. The Delaware County Historical Society collection on Lansdowne Borough, 1919-2012, consists of records and materials relating to numerous Lansdowne institutions, organizations, and events. About one third of the collection pertains to Lansdowne-Aldan High School (formerly Lansdowne High School) class reunions.
