Abstract:: The Langhorne Building and Loan Association was organized on March 10, 1879 with 600 shares. It was reorganized and incorporated in 1904 as Langhorne Building and Loan Association No. 2. The Langhorne Building and Loan Association records, 1879-1952, document roughly 75 years of the organization's history since its founding. The collection consists of constitution and bylaws, minutes, shareholders lists and annual statements, stock ledgers and certificates, certificates of transfer, as well as financial reports, statements, and audits.

Wells family papers, 1845-1959 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Settled by Quakers beginning in 1680, the small town of Langhorne in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, became an important transportation center between Trenton and Philadelphia. Harvey G. Wells, a stone mason, and his son Gilbert R. Wells, a contractor and builder, were involved in a significant amount of construction in the town during its growth from the mid-19th to the early 20th century. The Wells family papers, 1845-1959, consist primarily of the business records of Harvey G. Wells and Gilbert R. Wells. Records include account books, lists of jobs and workers, daybooks, and land agreements, as well as financial papers such as cashbooks. The collection also includes some Wells family papers and ephemera.

Historical Society of Bensalem Township subject files, circa 1900-2013

Abstract:: Settled by the Dutch, Swedes, and English, Bensalem Township in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, was a farming community until the 1950s and 1960s when the area underwent a significant amount of suburban development. The Historical Society of Bensalem Township subject files, circa 1900-2013, consist of vertical files and binders focusing on local history subjects. The materials are primarily photocopies of primary-source documents and secondary-source articles. There is a fair amount of original materials as well, including newspaper clippings, photographs, ephemera, and other miscellaneous materials.

William L. Lathrop papers, 1741-2000s

Abstract:: William Langson Lathrop (1859-1938) was an artist, teacher, and sailor. He helped establish the artists colony in New Hope, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. When he was not working on his own art or teaching others, he would sail on his boat The Widge. William L. Lathrop papers, 1741-2000s, consist of both original Lathrop papers and materials about him that were created or collected by his descendants. Materials include personal and professional/exhibition-related correspondence, exhibition materials, diaries, photographs, slides, scrapbooks, newspaper and magazine clippings, genealogical research on the Lathrop family, artworks, and other materials. There are some 18th century documents from the Langson family. Several items relate to Lathrop's boat, The Widge.

Harry Leith-Ross papers, circa 1906-2003

Abstract:: Harry Leith-Ross (1886-1973) was a painter in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was an influential teacher and author as well as one of the most decorated Pennsylvania Impressionist artists. Leith-Ross became renowned for his vibrant, carefully composed oil paintings, and for his transparent watercolor technique in the tradition of the eighteenth-century. He gained recognition for depicting humble genre scenes of rural life and finding beauty in the everyday activities of people. Harry Leith-Ross papers, circa 1906-2003, consist of correspondence; inventories, photographs, and sales records of Leith-Ross's work; a manuscript for Harry Leith-Ross's book; materials from Leith-Ross exhibits; records of his work kept by his family after his death; correspondence with his family about post-mortem exhibitions; family photographs; genealogical research and family documents; newspaper clippings; medals, certificates, and awards; and other materials.

Herman Silverman correspondence, press clippings, and photographs, 1949-1998 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Herman Silverman (born in 1920) is the founder of Sylvan Pools, the Bucks County, Pennsylvania Artmobile, and advocate for the James A. Michener Art Museum. Silverman was a longtime friend of author James Michener and the two enjoyed lengthy discussions on varied topics. Herman Silverman correspondence, press clippings, and photographs, 1949-1998, is comprised of copies of 538 letters dating from 1949 to 1997, the majority of which are to or from Herman Silverman or James A. Michener. In addition, there is an extensive collection of press clippings pertaining to both Silverman and Michener, photographs, and a 1998 Crystal Quill award presented to Michener by the Philadelphia Writers' Conference.

Michener (1907-1997) was a best-selling American author of more than forty books, a large number of which were historical novels based in specific locations around the world where Michener had traveled. Michener was known for his extensive research of each location's history, culture, and geology. Michener was a generous philanthropist and donated over one hundred million dollars to various educational programs, arts related institutions, and other organizations. James A. Michener papers, circa 1925-1990s, consist of correspondence, financial records, personal documents, large amounts of photographs and negatives, audio and audio visual materials, documents from organizations with which Michener was involved, printed matter and published materials, artwork, objects, and various other materials.

Abstract:: Bristol Borough in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, became an important area due to its location along the Delaware River, a major land route, and subsequent rail line linking Philadelphia and New York City. Incorporated in 1720, it served as the county seat from 1705 to 1726. The Bristol (Pa.) Abstract:: An altruistic and benevolent fraternal organization, the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.), which was originally organized in England in the 18th century, was started by Thomas Wildey in the United States in 1819. Hopkins Lodge No. 87, located in Bristol, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, was organized in 1843. The Independent Order of Odd Fellows Hopkins Lodge No. 87 (Bristol, Pa.) records, 1843-1982, consist primarily of minute books and ledgers, and a Junior 3 Link Club minute book and Link Club membership forms. Also included in the collection is a Washington Hall Association of the Borough of Bristol minute book.
