Abstract:: The Mathias family, of Scotch-Irish descent, was one of the first families to settle in Hilltown Township (Bucks County, Pennsylvania) around the turn of the 18th century. The family was very involved in the local Baptist community; a few members were prominent Baptist ministers. The Mathias family papers, 1709-1840 (bulk 1790-1840) consist of various materials relating to several generations of the Mathias family, including cyphering books; financial and estate papers such as account books, receipts and invoices, estate inventories, property records, and daybooks; baptismal certificates; a few letters; and several early property maps.

Abstract:: The Joseph Heacock Company, founded by former Pennsylvania State Senator Joseph Heacock, Jr. (1846-1918) and located in Lower Makefield Township (Bucks County, Pa.), served as one of the area's largest employers during the first half of the 20th century. Growers of palms, roses, orchids, and carnations, the company gained international fame, particularly for its roses; its dairy farm served as a significant provider in the surrounding area. The company closed its doors in 1974. The Joseph Heacock Company records, 1887-1930, consist primarily of financial ledgers, such as expense books, account books, and cash books, as well as a few other items including a deed, ephemera, and bylaws.

Abstract:: Makefield was one of the five original townships of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, established in 1692. It was divided into Lower Makefield and Upper Makefield in 1737. Largely agricultural for most of its history, Lower Makefield's population swelled with suburban development in the 20th century. The Lower Makefield Historical Society deeds and manuscripts collection, 1729-1925, consists primarily of deeds, releases, mortgages, and other property-related documents. The Palmer, Yardley, Ely, Stapler, Cadwallader, and other local families are represented. The collection also includes two minute books from local organizations, the Lower Makefield Total Abstinence Temperance Society (1836) and the Lower Makefield Fremount and Dayton Club (1856).

Abstract:: The Bristol Borough School District, located in the southeastern part of Bucks County, is bordered on the east by the Delaware River and is surrounded on the remaining three sides by the Bristol Township School District. The School District's first building was built in 1837; the first class graduated in 1883. For many years Bristol High School served as a regional High School for students from surrounding communities. The Bristol Borough (Pa.) School District records, 1856-2000, consists of letters from teachers, budget reports, strategic plans, and financial records, as well as a few school newspapers and photographs.

Abstract:: Joseph Peter Cuttone (1915-2010) was a life-long Bristol resident, a barber, and an amateur photographer. The Joseph P. Cuttone photographs and clippings, circa 1880-1995, consist of photographs taken by Cuttone, as well as older original photographs and sometimes copies of those photographs that Cuttone collected. There are also a small number of newspaper clippings relating to Bristol history and local events.
