Abstract:

Makefield was one of the five original townships of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, established in 1692. It was divided into Lower Makefield and Upper Makefield in 1737. Largely agricultural for most of its history, Lower Makefield's population swelled with suburban development in the 20th century. The Lower Makefield Historical Society collection of oral histories, house histories, and scrapbooks, 1980-2009, includes audiocassette tapes, VHS tapes, narrative house histories, and photocopies of deeds, photographs, newspaper clippings, and other original items that document the local history of Lower Makefield Township.

Joseph Heacock Company records, 1887-1930 1887-1930 (inclusive)

Abstract:

The Joseph Heacock Company, founded by former Pennsylvania State Senator Joseph Heacock, Jr. (1846-1918) and located in Lower Makefield Township (Bucks County, Pa.), served as one of the area's largest employers during the first half of the 20th century. Growers of palms, roses, orchids, and carnations, the company gained international fame, particularly for its roses; its dairy farm served as a significant provider in the surrounding area. The company closed its doors in 1974. The Joseph Heacock Company records, 1887-1930, consist primarily of financial ledgers, such as expense books, account books, and cash books, as well as a few other items including a deed, ephemera, and bylaws.

Abstract:

Makefield was one of the five original townships of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, established in 1692. It was divided into Lower Makefield and Upper Makefield in 1737. Largely agricultural for most of its history, Lower Makefield's population swelled with suburban development in the 20th century. The Lower Makefield Historical Society deeds and manuscripts collection, 1729-1925, consists primarily of deeds, releases, mortgages, and other property-related documents. The Palmer, Yardley, Ely, Stapler, Cadwallader, and other local families are represented. The collection also includes two minute books from local organizations, the Lower Makefield Total Abstinence Temperance Society (1836) and the Lower Makefield Fremount and Dayton Club (1856).

Makefield was one of the five original townships of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, established in 1692. It was divided into Lower Makefield and Upper Makefield in 1737. Largely agricultural for most of its history, Lower Makefield's population swelled with suburban development in the 20th century. The Ralph N. Thompson subject files on Lower Makefield Township, 1991-1998, consist of nine binders of local history research compiled by Thompson. In addition to short narrative histories written by Thompson on various local families, buildings, and other local topics, the collection includes photocopies of original documents such as deeds, wills, and photographs.
