- Abstract:
- Willard Sharpless Jr. (1884-1959) was a blacksmith in Chadds Ford, Delaware County, Pennsylvania in the early 20th century. In 1944, one of his legs had to be amputated and Christian Sanderson, who rented the back portion of the house in which Sharpless lived, initiated a fundraising campaign to raise money for an artificial leg for Sharpless. The Willard Sharpless family papers, 1871-1936 (bulk 1927-1936), consist of daybooks, an account book, invoices, an autograph book, and a fundraising book tracking the donations for Sharpless's artificial leg.
