Abstract:: The Cooper-Richardson collection contains correspondence and family memorabilia from the Cooper family (William Evans and Sarah Matlack Roberts Cooper). The Cooper family were Quakers of New Jersey, attending meetings in the Woodbury and Byberry areas. The collection includes correspondence and family memorabilia. Of particular interest is the journal of their granddaughter, Anna C. Richardson, written on her trip to California in 1904, and the writings of Sarah Cooper.

Abstract:: The Cooper family were Quakers of New Jersey and Pennsylvania, attending meetings in the Woodbury and Byberry areas. Materials in this collection focus on the children of William E. and Elizabeth Roberts Cooper, their spouses and children. William Evans Cooper (1812-1856) married Elizabeth Matlack Roberts (1815-1902) at Woodbury Monthly Meeting in Gloucester County, N.J., in 1836. They had 8 children: Annie who married Ezra Lippincott, Sarah, Mary Kaighn who married Nathaniel Richardson, Elizabeth Roberts, Joseph Morgan, Lucy who married Elisha Hunt Walker, William Alfred who married Mary Bagg, and Henry R. Cooper who married Jessie Bagg. Sarah and Anna C. Richardson, daughters of Mary K. and Nathaniel Richardson, were both teachers and active Friends. Their father was an acknowledged minister. Abstract:: Benjamin F. Whitson (1867-1957) of Moylan, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, was a Quaker businessman. Whitson was active in Quaker affairs such as Friends World Conference in 1937 and the Fellowship of Reconciliation, and in Quaker concerns such as peace, temperance, and education. He was the son of Thomas H. and Phebe (Cooper) Whitson, and his family and extended family has deep Quaker associations. Both Benjamin Whitson and his father, were recognized as Quaker ministers and made visits to Ohio Yearly Meeting (Conservative). Benjamin Whitson lived in California from 1905-1907 and was active in Pasadena Meeting of Friends. In later life, he collected letters and genealogical information on the many Quaker branches of his family. Abstract:: William Cooper, a New Jersey Quaker and Elder of Woodbury Monthly Meeting, married Sarah Morgan in 1806. They had six children and resided at "Greenfield" in Woodbury. This collection contains family correspondence, wills and marriage certificates, other manuscript and printed materials, memorabilia, and photographs of the ancestors and descendents of William and Sarah Morgan Cooper. Includes historical writings of Howard Mickle Cooper and the genealogical notes compiled by Lucy Smyth Cooper.

Abstract:: This collection primarily includes correspondence between William Wade Griscom and his family while he was at Benjamin Hallowell's boarding school in Alexandria, Virginia. Correspondents include his father, William, his stepmother, Sarah Whitelock, and his sister, Hannah S. Included are grade reports from Friends Central School and from Alexandria Boarding School, descriptions by William Wade Griscom of his trips to Washington, D.C., and an account of a lecture by Horace Mann. Also included are letters from Lucy M. Cooper to her daughter Sarah, written while the latter was attending the Sharon Boarding School. The collection provides details on the daily life and education of Quaker youth in the 19th century.
