Abstract:: Dr. Rafael A. Suarez and James T. Caulfield, known as "The Philamigos," traveled throughout South America in the 1950s-1980s, operated a learning center in Philadelphia, and were prominent members of the Philadelphia LGBT community. The James T. Caulfield and Rafael A. Suarez papers, 1918-1985, extensively document their works, including the Philamigos Institute of Learning, their travels abroad, and Caulfield's experience as a gay soldier during World War II. The collection contains correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, ephemera, over a dozen 16-mm films, and stamps/correspondence regarding philately.

Millbrook Society vertical files, circa 1855-2011

Abstract:: In 1715, the Crooked Billet Inn was built by John Dawson in what is now known as Hatboro Township, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. It was a farming village that boasted one of the first rural libraries in Pennsylvania, the Union Library Company. The Millbrook Society vertical files, circa 1855-2011, is made up of materials collected and created by the Millbrook Society. The majority of files relate to local history topics, such as specific businesses and schools. Document types represented throughout the collection include newspaper clippings, photocopies of manuscript materials, pamphlets, programs, yearbooks, school ephemera, and some original manuscript materials (most of which are receipts).

Perkasie Historical Society World Wars collection, 1917-1946 (bulk) 1917-2001 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Many men and women from Perkasie, Bucks County, Pennsylvania and the surrounding area served in the military during World War I and World War II. The Perkasie Historical Society World Wars collection, 1917-2001 (bulk 1917-1946), primarily consists of photograph albums and clippings scrapbooks that document their involvement. It also includes pamphlets, ephemera, ration books and cards, training manuals, and printed histories of various military divisions. Of special interest is a scrapbook with photographs of all of the WWI servicemen from Perkasie and short typed biographies about each soldier's service.

Abstract:: This collection consists of subject files created by the Office of the President during the tenures of the first six presidents of the Drexel Institute: James MacAlister (1840-1913, president 1891-1913), Hollis Godfrey (1874-1936, president 1914-1921), Kenneth Matheson (1864-1931, president 1921-1932), Parke R. Kolbe (1881-1942, president 1932-1942), George P. Rea (1894-1978, president 1942-1944), and James Creese (1896-1966, president 1945-1963), as well as during the interim presidency of Robert C. Disque (1883-1968, interim president 1944-1945). The subject files cover individuals affiliated with the university, faculty, university committees, historical events, and subjects of interest. It is likely that the files were compiled and arranged at least in part by Harriet Worrell, who worked in the Office of the President during the mid twentieth century; many records contain her annotations.

Abstract:: Gilbert MacMaster (1869-1967), a Quaker, was involved in charitable work in post-World War II Europe. The papers include his letters, photographs, and diary, which covers his and Margarethe Lachmund's (his wife) 30 years of service (1920-1950) with the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) child feeding mission in Germany, after World War I, as head of the Friends Center in Hamburg, during Hitler's rise to power, and as American Friends' representative in Basel, Switzerland, during World War II and later.

Abstract:: Iwao Frederick Ayusawa (1894-1972) spent much of his life working with the International Labor Organization, and later served as a faculty member of the International Christian University in Japan. Vanda Sruoga collection of copies of Balys Sruoga and Vincas Kreve materials, 1919-1969 (inclusive) 1943-1945 (bulk)

Abstract:: Vanda Sruoga (1899-1997) was a Lithuanian historian and educator and the wife of prominent Lithuanian writer Balys Sruoga. Balys Sruoga (1896-1947) was a poet, playwright, critic, and literary theorist. In 1943, he was sent to Stutthof Concentration Camp. Vanda Sruoga collected Balys Sruoga's letters from the camp, as well as additional writing he produced during this time. She typed and translated some of the letters from German into Lithuanian and added her own notes. Vanda Sruoga also collected letters she received from Vincas Kreve, another prominent Lithuanian writer.

Abstract:: Thomas Sovereign Gates, Sr. (1873-1948), a Philadelphia native and University of Pennsylvania alumnus, served as the first president of the University of Pennsylvania from 1930 to 1944. The collections consists of 36 volumes of scrapbooks containing newspaper clippings, programs, and ephemera, largely dating from the years immediately preceding Gates' presidency at the University of Pennsylvania through his death in 1948.
