Abstract:
The Lower Merion Historical Society photograph collection, 1870-2011, contains photographs, slides, and negatives taken or collected by the Lower Merion Historical Society. The subjects include local schools, businesses, residences, churches, neighborhoods, parks, historic sites, railroads, and fire companies. The township of Lower Merion in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania was first settled by Welsh Quakers in 1682. It is part of the "Main Line," a collection of affluent Philadelphia suburbs located alongside the Pennsylvania Railroad line that was built between Philadelphia and Harrisburg in the mid-19th century.

Malvern Historical Commission historic property research files, 1970-2015 (bulk) 1889-2015 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Around the time of the United States bicentennial, the Chester County (Pennsylvania) Commissioners formed a partnership with the Chester County Historical Society, the Brandywine Conservancy and many volunteers to organize a Chester County Historic Sites Survey. This survey, conducted between 1979 and 1982, included all of Chester County except for the Boroughs of West Chester and Downingtown (which initiated separate survey projects around this time). The Malvern Historical Commission historic property files, 1889-2015 (bulk 1970-2015), consist of research compiled on historic homes in Malvern, including deed research, maps, atlases, and historic property survey forms that were originally created as part of the Chester County Historic Sites Survey. The collection is arranged into three series: I. Subject files, II. Property files, and III. Oversized materials.

Nicholas Newlin Foundation records, 1959-2013 (bulk) 1834-2013 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Newlin Grist Mill was built in Delaware County, Pennsylvania in 1704 by Nathaniel Newlin, a Quaker settler who came to Pennsylvania in 1683 with his father Nicholas. It changed hands and names several times before ceasing operations in 1943. E. Mortimer Newlin, a descendant of Nicholas and Nathaniel Newlin, purchased the mill in 1956 and began renovating it; in 1960 he established the Nicholas Newlin Foundation, a nonprofit corporation which took title of the property and opened it as an historic site. The Nicholas Newlin Foundation records, 1834-2013 (bulk 1959-2013), consist largely of paper documents with information on board and staff members, financial information, information on buildings and grounds, on public relations and programming, and other aspects of the organization. Louise Deshong Woodbridge glass negatives, 1884-1905 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Louise Deshong Woodbridge (1848-1925), a member of the prominent Deshong family of Chester (Delaware County, Pennsylvania) was an active socialite as well as an amateur photographer and painter. Taking up photography in the early 1880s, Woodbridge had a fairly successful career with her work being exhibited at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The Louise Deshong Woodbridge glass negatives, 1884-1905, consist of approximately 200 primarily glass plate negatives with some 4x5" film negatives that document the creator's family, friends, and social activities. They also document Delaware County and the surrounding area around the turn of the 20th century, particularly historic structures, such as the Woodbridge and Deshong mansions, and landscapes. Of special interest are some photographs of the White House, including the White House conservatory, and First Lady Ida McKinley.

Established in 1681, Newtown Township (Newtown Square), is the oldest township in Delaware County, Pennsylvania and has over 100 historic structures still standing. Newtown Square Historical Society local history collection, 1744-2013, includes various original manuscripts, secondary-source materials, and digital files that document the individuals, families, organizations, and landscape of the Newtown Square area. Materials in the collection include ledgers, photographs, letters, deeds, pamphlets, ephemera, maps, newspaper clippings, and photocopies and scans of articles and primary source documents.

Everett and Grace Rodebaugh papers, circa 1890-1985

Abstract:
Everett G. Rodebaugh (1902-1983), a nationally prominent court reporter and founder of a court-reporting service in Philadelphia, Pa. married Grace M. Haspel (1905-1999) in 1925. A wealthy couple who never had children, the Rodebaughs were socialites, travelled extensively, and were active as philanthropists and conservationists. In 1935, they purchased "Welkinweir," a 162-acre farm estate in East Nantmeal Township, Chester County, Pa., and converted part of the grounds into an arboretum. Welkinweir, placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001, as of 2013 is owned and administered by Green Valleys Association (an organization the Rodebaughs helped found in 1964). Upsala is a historic house located on Germantown Avenue in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Originally owned by members of the Johnson family, the facade and main part of the home were built in the 1790s. In 1944, the Upsala Foundation acquired ownership of the house and operated it at as a historic house museum. The Upsala Foundation was dissolved circa 2004-2005, and Cliveden, Inc. acquired the building and its contents. The Upsala Foundation records, 1773-2005 (bulk 1944-2005), consist of financial records, administrative records, programming and event materials, maintenance files, scrapbooks, and photographs that document Upsala and the Upsala Foundation.

Wilma B. Rezer (1915-1993) was an amateur historian who focused on property research and local history for her hometown of Doylestown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. The Wilma B. Rezer local history research, 1865-2010 (bulk 1970-1990), includes a series of files for years she researched (1804-1966) and a series of her writings on Doylestown history. Her best-known history, completed for the Bucks County tercentennial in 1982, is Doylestown: And How It Came to Be, 1724-1980," of which there are several copies in this collection.

Graystone Society collection on Coatesville history, 1880-2011 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Coatesville in Chester County, Pennsylvania is home to the longest operating steel mill in America, Lukens Steel Company. Development in the area was spurred by convenient transport routes offered by America's first turnpike, the Philadelphia to Lancaster Turnpike (now U.S. Route 30), and the Philadelphia and Columbia Railroad, built in 1834. The Graystone Society, Inc. is today a not-for-profit educational institution dedicating to collecting, preserving, exhibiting, and interpreting iron and steel's history and its relationship to Coatesville, the region, and the nation. The Graystone Society collection on Coatesville history, 1880-2011, includes photographs, scrapbooks, minute books, clippings, school books, and various other family papers and organizational records relating to the people and organizations of Coatesville and the surrounding area.
