Wilmer J. and Mildred Binns Young Papers, 1909-2014 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Wilmer J. Young (1887-1983), a Quaker teacher and peace activist born in Iowa, was involved in post World War I reconstruction in France and Poland. He married Mildred Binns in 1922, and together they worked with AFSC work camps and cooperative farms until he began to teach at Pendle Hill in 1955. The collection contains primarily journals and correspondence from his time in France.

Woman's Club of Swarthmore records, 1898-1995 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection contains the records of the Woman's Club of Swarthore, founded in 1898. The Club offered women of the community a means of support and education, a place to meet and find common interests and nurtured the founding of a number of community organizations. The Club disbanded in 2002.

Abstract:: This collection includes letters and printed materials relating to Rufus Jones. Included are photocopies of letters commenting on or criticizing The American Friend of which Rufus Jones was editor. Among these are a letter from Henry Stanley Neuman, editor of The Friend, regarding the state of the Society in England, and a letter from Walter Malone relating events at Ohio Yearly Meeting in 1894. Letters from R.L. Kelly, Joseph Moore, David Hadley, and Thomas Newlin discuss The American Friend, Friends University in Wichita, Kansas, and Quaker doctrine. A letter from J. Rendel Harris presents an issue of Biblical translation. Also included are drafts of Jones' article, Are We Ready, letters concerning its release, and Richmond P. Miller's introduction to the publication, On Your Marks! Get Set! Various personal letters to Rufus Jones and a transcript copy of his remarks at Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, entitled We Must Help Answer Our Prayers, are also included.

Abstract:: Genealogical and Historical manuscripts, clippings and photographs relating to Quaker families in Ireland, particularly in Limerick, Dublin and Waterford. One manuscript on the Malcomson family was co-written by Alexander Malcomson. Includes information on industries in which Quakers were involved as well as Quaker aid during the famine and the Fenian Rebellion. Also contains correspondence with Charles Francis Jenkins in which Bennis requests that his writings be passed on to the Friends Historical Library.
