Bernard Barton letterbook, 1822-1837 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection includes of the single letterbook of Bernard Barton, as well as correspondence related to the history of the letterbook, dated 1942. The letterbook contains personal correspondence from friends and family, and letters are often related to personal and family news, Barton's poetry and writings, and literature in general. Letter writers include Charles Lamb, Thomas Campbell, Elizabeth Fry, Charles Lloyd, Andrew Ritchie, Robert Southey, John Scott, Horatio Smith, Mary White, and John Chandler.

"Some Account of Baltimore Yearly Meeting 1825", 1825

Abstract:: This collection is composed of the single, handwritten document by an unknown author. It reads similiarly to minutes that may have been taken. It also includes a note on the inside that "The Individuals to whose names the * is attached in the following sheets were acive and influential "Hicksites" at the time or afterwards" [Emphasis theirs].

Allinson family scrapbooks, 1829-1870 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Allinson family scrapbook is largely comprised of clippings on poetry, temperance, prison reform, reform for juvenile delinquents, and anti-slavery. Many of the anti-slavery clippings discuss the possibility of using Jamaica as a "home for colored emigrants." The end of the volume includes 12 pages of signatures. The volume also includes an obituary for Samuel Allinson.

Elizabeth Gurney Fry collection, 1800-1845 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection includes letters of Elizabeth Fry, both original and photocopies. The letters cover a wide range of subjects, from personal news to prison reform. Her correspondence is particularly concerned with education and religious instruction of prisoners, and the treatment of women and children prisoners. One letter describes the philosophy of Quaker marriages. Most of the recipients are unnamed. Also included are several letters of Joseph Fry, passes to visit Newgate prison, and photographs of Elizabeth Fry.

George M. Justice papers, 1818-1853 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection includes various business correspondence, including a letter and testimony by John Comly encouraging changes in the Quaker discipline regarding marriage. Also contained are extracts of minutes from Abington Quarterly Meeting discussing marriage, a letter from George M. Justice to his sons, and a hymn printed in raised type for the Pennsylvania Institution for the Instruction of the Blind. Also included are unsigned writings on the subjects of a possible war between the U.S. and France and public education.

Maria Fox family correspondence, 1809-1825 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection primarily includes letters written by Maria Fox to her parents in Philadelphia while she was a student at Wilmington Boarding School. Also included are two letters from Maria's sister, Sarah Ann. The correspondence gives an account of the daily experiences of a student at Wilmington Boarding School. One letter briefly mentions a talk given at the school by the Quaker minister, Emmor Kimber.
