Abstract:: Perkasie is located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania midway between Philadelphia and Allentown. The site of William Penn's 'Perkasie Manor,' the town was incorporated in 1879 and by the turn of the 20th century had become the third largest station on the North Penn railroad line. The Perkasie Historical Society photograph collection, circa 1880-2000, consists of various photographs of local people, events, buildings, organizations, and other subjects. Most of the photographs are original photographic prints; there are also some photocopies, glass plate negatives, slides, and oversized photographs.

Abstract:: Pearl S. Buck (1892-1973) was an American author, best known for her Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Good Earth and her humanitarian work including her advocacy for women's and minority groups' rights, her efforts to increase and promote mutual understanding between the people of China and America, and her activities with Asian and interracial adoption. Buck married her publisher, Richard J. Walsh (1886-1960), in 1935. The Pearl S. Buck and Richard J. Walsh papers, 1890s-1972, consist of materials that document the literary, philanthropic and business endeavors of Pearl S. Buck and her husband, publisher, and partner Richard J. Walsh spanning over sixty years, from about the 1890s to 1972. The papers represent home office files, the editorial files of Asia magazine for the time period when Richard J. Pearl S. Buck letters to Anne K. Sun, 1942-1958 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Anne Koopman Sun (1889-1975) was an American woman who worked as a teacher in Shanghai and Chongqing, China from about the 1920s to the 1940s and was a longtime friend of Pearl S. Buck. Sun married a Chinese banker and had one son. She moved back to the United States with her son in 1946. The Pearl S. Buck letters to Anne K. Sun, 1942-1958, consist of thirteen letters from Pearl S. Buck to Anne K. Sun written between 1947 and 1956. Also available in the collection is a booklet written by Pearl S. Buck, a photograph signed from Buck to Sun, and a label inscribed to Sun from Buck.

Pearl S. Buck letters to Mary Carolyn Dobbs, 1951-1965 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Mary Carolyn Dobbs (1911-2011) was a teacher and pioneer in the field of special education, responsible for several significant improvements in classrooms for children with disabilities and their teachers at the state and national levels. She corresponded with Pearl S. Buck, who shared Dobbs' concern for children with disabilities, and whose own daughter, Carol Buck (1920-1992), had been diagnosed with an intellectual disability. Dobbs visited Buck in Perkasie, Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1951. The Pearl S. Buck letters to Mary Carolyn Dobbs, 1951-1965, consist of fifteen signed letters from Pearl S. Buck to Carolyn Dobbs and a typed draft of an article published in the California mental health newsletter The Pointer with handwritten corrections by Pearl S. Buck.

John O. Barth Quakertown High School sports scrapbooks, 1920-1989 (inclusive)

Abstract:: John Oexle Barth, nicknamed "Moose," was a coach at Quakertown High School in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Known as the "founding father" of Quakertown High School sports, he was inducted into the Quakertown Teacher's Hall of Fame in 1988 and the Pennridge-Quakertown Sports Hall of Fame in 1990. The John O. Barth Quakertown High School sports scrapbooks, 1920-1989, consist of newspaper clippings with some photographs and documents relating to Quakertown High School's sports teams and Barth's leadership as a coach. The collection also features one record book of "The Athletic Committee of Quakertown High School" (established 1920).

Quakertown Historical Society photograph collection, circa 1865-1990

Abstract:: Quakertown, Pennsylvania, incorporated in 1855, is a town located in the northeast portion of Upper Bucks County. The town remained quite small until the mid-nineteenth century, when the construction of the North Pennsylvania Railroad helped turn it into a significant commercial center. The Quakertown Historical Society photograph collection, circa 1865-1990, consists primarily of framed photographs, including panoramas, that depict the people and places of Quakertown. There is a large proportion of group photographs, especially Quakertown High School class and sports team photographs.

Grand View Hospital Auxiliary collection, circa 1913-2013

Abstract:: Grand View Hospital in Sellersville was the first hospital in Bucks County, Pennsylvania upon its founding in 1913. Two years later it opened a Nurse's Training School, the only one in Bucks County. The hospital is still in operation as of 2014. The Grand View Hospital Auxiliary collection, circa 1913-2013, includes a large quantity of scrapbooks and publications and ephemera, as well as some photographs and a small amount of correspondence and other documents.

Ned Harrington local research files and publications, circa 1980-2008

Abstract:: Originally part of Buckingham Township, the township of Solebury in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, was incorporated circa 1702. Industries, particularly farming, became prevalent in the area by the 19th century; the picturesque landscape also drew many prominent artists to the area. Edwin (Ned) Harrington (1920-2009), who was considered Solebury Township's unofficial historian, authored numerous publications and conducted a tremendous amount of research on various local history topics, particularly local families and historic properties. The Ned Harrington local research files and publications, circa 1980-2008, include Harrington's privately-published histories as well as his research files, which are organized into three series: family files; property files; and local history. There is also a small amount of materials that have been added over time by the Solebury Township Historical Society.

James and Lorah families papers, 1833-1954 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Oliver P. James (1815-1894) was a prominent doctor and community member in Doylestown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He, his wife Sarah (1824-1906), and their three children Oliver (1860-1890), Martha (1862-1918), and Sarah (1864-1954) lived at what is now known as the James-Lorah Memorial Home at 132 N. Main Street in Doylestown. In 1896, Dr. James' daughter, Martha, married George H. Lorah (1863-1945), a minister at the Doylestown Methodist Episcopal Church. Martha's sister, Sarah James was a charter member of the Village Improvement Association of Doylestown (VIA), and upon her passing in 1954, the family home and its contents and property, as well as a trust fund for maintenance were bequeathed to the VIA. The James and Lorah families papers, 1833-1954, consist of original manuscript documents from the James and Lorah families, primarily Dr. Oliver P.
