Abstract:: The collection, spanning the period from 1832 to 1892, consists primarily of the letters written to Joseph Elfreth (1824-1898), a Quaker, many of which relate to family matters, including health and the birth of children, and occasionally indicates the connections among Quaker families. There are also financial accounts, miscellaneous letters, documents and a few photographs.

Abstract:: This collection contains materials pertaining to the Taylor family. It contains correspondence, journals, legal documents, genealogical information, and research in the history of Quakerism. There are also many photographs in the collection, including carte de vistas and other nineteenth century photographic techniques. Other related families within the collection include the Savery, Scattergood, Richie, Hooton, and Roberts families.

Anna Wharton Morris Papers, 1729-1957 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Anna Wharton Morris was the youngest daughter of Joseph Wharton, prominent Philadelphia industrialist and philanthropist. She was a birthright member of the Society of Friends, active in prison reform and other social reform movements of her day, and was a profilic writer, primarily of short stories and essays. In 1896, she married Harrison S. Morris, Philadelphia author and arts administrator, and they had one child, Catharine Morris Wright. The collection includes her diaries and journals, maintained almost continuously from 1884 to 1956, correspondence received, her manuscript writings, and other miscellaneous materials. Of particular interest is material on the prison reform movement, particularly the correspondence of Thomas Mott Osborne. Other correspondents include Emily Sartain, Thomas Wallace Swann, J. Abstract:: This collection contains family papers and correspondence of Enos and Hannah Sharpless including two copy books of the latter. The letters primarily concern family matters. Two documents of note are a letter from Johnson Knight concerning the Quaker testimony on slavery and a pass issued for an enslaved person bought by Enos Sharpless in order to be liberated.

Hiram Doty collected papers relating to Quaker history, 1756-1874 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection includes original manuscripts collected by Hi Doty relating to early Quaker involvement in Indian affairs from 1756 to 1821 and the Friendly Association. Of particular interest are documents concerning the settlement at Oneida and the Treaty of Easton. Correspondents include Tedyuscung, Nathaniel Holland, Frederick Post, John Hunt, William Cooper, Israel Chapin, William Savery, James Pemberton, and Joseph Elkinton. Also included in the collection are several letters written by 19th century Quakers on a variety of topics. Among the latter are eight letters received by Joel and Hannah E. Bean.

Abstract:: Includes letters, sermons, and manuscript fragments, as well as an 1824 printed epistle from London Yearly Meeting. The papers provide important insight into Kersey's faith and his thoughts on the Separation in the Society of Friends.
