- Abstract:
- The collection consists of two batches of manuscripts and documents of de Beaujour pertaining to the Amercian economy and commercial opportunities for France in the U.S. during the administration of Thomas Jefferson: 1) French manuscript entitled "Coup-d'oeil sur la Caroline du Nord" (18 pp., ca. 1805), which provides an overview of North Carolina history and suggests ways in which France might develop and improve commercial relationships with the state, with a printed article from an American journal (1807) about a legal claim by the French government concerning a South Carolina frigate; 2) several manuscripts regarding general topgraphy and geographic areas (Northwest, South), with numerous statistical tables showing, for example, value of exports (by state), population, agriculture, and industries of all the states. Some of these tables begin with data from the 18th century.
