Abstract:
The Records of the Althouse, Bates, and Crompton Chemical Companies consist mainly of the corporate records of Althouse Chemical Company, Bates Chemical Company, and Crompton Corporation (including its corporate predecessors Crompton & Knowles Loom Works and Crompton & Knowles Corporation). The files in these records contain annual reports, newsletters, appraisal materials, design plans, and other miscellaneous materials. The records were collected by James Feeman, a longtime employee of Althouse Chemical Company, Incorporated.

Abstract:
The Dr. Daniel and Eleanor Albert collection of ophthalmology material (1596-2000, undated) presents the historical transformations of eye care and ocular medicine, with a particular emphasis on the field in the nineteenth century. While the majority of materials in this collection relate to ophthalmology, some pertain more broadly to medicine or to American history. In addition to the historical medical documents, this collection includes dozens of pairs of antique spectacles and over one hundred ophthalmoscopes.

Dearnley Brothers Worsted Spinning Company and Dearnley Top Company records, 1908-1963 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Dearnley Brothers Worsted and Spinning Company was owned by John H. Dearnley, the son of a British wool merchant, and produced worsted and woolen yarns during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The company was eventually passed on to Dearnley’s son, Charles E. Dearnley, who created the Dearnley Top Company, Incorporated in 1946. This collection contains the companies’ business records and personal papers of Charles E. Dearnley. This collection dates from 1908 to 1963, and consists of ledgers, appraisal documents, financial records, and photographs detailing the companies’ creations and dissolutions, production, and legal affairs.

Abstract:
The Frederick Brown Company was founded by Frederick Brown (March 12, 1796 – February 27, 1864) after he began producing Brown's Essence of Jamaica Ginger in 1822. Brown began production on the corner of Chestnut and 5th Streets in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Frederick Brown Company was successful as their Essence of Jamaica Ginger was a popular household medicine and remedy. The Frederick Brown Collection consists of two series. Series I contains a variety of personal and family papers, including letters, postcards and estate and life insurance documents. Series II contains financial and legal records for the Frederick Brown Company.
