Abstract:
This collection contains 48 color posters documenting Soviet propaganda during the 1920s and 1930s. The Communist party aimed to erase religion, Czarism, and capitalism, and replace them with a new way of life. It also condemned drinking and promoted a healthier diet and exercise. About a third of the posters focus on the raising of children, targeting mothers and promoting physically and ideologically healthy parenting and child care of the future generation of Soviet citizens.

Soviet student schoolwork, 1928-1950 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Following the 1917 Revolution, the Soviet Union implemented education strategies that resulted in an enormous increase in literacy across the nation. This collection consists of schoolwork created by Soviet students from 1928 to 1950. Students included children as young as five years old through the 7th grade as well as women who were part of the Soviet Union's efforts to significantly increase the literacy of its population. Across the board, student work focuses on Soviet ideology and includes copybooks, drawings, booklets relating to collectivization, and propaganda posters.

Howard Haines Brinton collection of Upper Silesia plebiscite material, 1919-1925 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Howard H. Brinton (1884-1973) was a Quaker educator who, from 1921 to 1922, worked for the American Friends Service Committee, directing its child-feeding program in Saxony and Silesia. This collection, gathered by Brinton, contains printed propagandist material, created by both the German and Polish governments, relating to the plebiscite of 1921 in Upper Silesia which determined whether the region was to remain part of Germany or join the newly established Second Polish Republic.
