Abstract:: Founded in 2012, the Monument Lab is an independent public art and history studio based in Philadelphia. Founded and led by Paul Farber and Ken Lum, Monument Lab works with artists, students, activists, municipal agencies, and cultural institutions on creative avenues for public engagement and collective memory. This collection documents the Monument Lab project, undertaken in partnership with Mural Arts Philadelphia, from 2015 to 2017, addressing the question, "what is an appropriate monument for the current city of Philadelphia?" The project collected 4,500 monument proposals, of which twenty were selected for temporary exhibit at a variety of public sites across the city

Abstract:: The Eric Matusewitch collection of Leonard Bernstein memorabilia, documents Matusewitch's admiration for the musician, composer, conductor, educator, author and humanitarian Leonard Bernstein. The collection contains articles, clippings, photographs, flyers, brochures, pamphlets, playbills, programs, calendar of events, posters, newspapers, invitations, sheet music, magazines, menus, advertisements, tickets, books, drawings, and scrapbooks of performances by Bernstein or of his work by other people or organizations.

Abstract:: The Common Press is the letterpress printing studio at the University of Pennsylvania and was founded at the University of Pennsylvania on January 17, 2006, the 300th anniversary of Benjamin Franklin's birth. It was conceived as an interdisciplinary project by Kelly Writers House (a writer-centered community founded at the University of Pennsylvania in 1995); the Kislak Center for Special Collections, Rare Books and Manuscripts; and the University of Pennsylvania Fine Arts program, to create an environment encouraging collaboration among students with an emphasis on working among digital and analog design, writing, and image making. Projects included in this collection, dated 1998 to 2016, consist of broadsides, posters, flyers, postcards, cards, and chapbooks, and were created using a variety of printing processes and techniques.

La colección contiene materiales relacionados con los movimientos revolucionarios, así como con el activismo relacionado con los derechos de las mujeres, los trabajadores, la Teología de la Liberación, las elecciones, el antiimperialismo y la soberanía nacional. The Fred Morgner Central American Political Ephemera Collection comes from the personal collection of posters and pamphlets from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. The collection contains materials related to revolutionary movements as well as activism related to women's rights, workers, Liberation Theology, elections, anti-imperialism, and national sovereignty.

Abstract:: The Philadelphia Orchestra was founded in 1900, and has developed and maintained its status as a prominent symphonic ensemble throughout its existence. Its history informs and intersects with the broader history of music in the twentieth century, as well as numerous historical movements, events and developments on a regional, national and global scale. The records of The Philadelphia Orchestra Association document its activities from 1900 to 2023 through administrative records, concert programs, photographs, scrapbooks and audio and visual recordings. This collection is not fully processed. While materials listed here have been processed and are available for research, a significant portion of the collection, labeled "unavailable," remains in process and cannot be consulted at this time. As soon as additional portions of the collection are completed they will be made available via additions to this finding aid. The last addition of completed materials occurred on October 26, 2023.
