Leeds and Tatum family collection, 1829-1925 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The collection consists primarily of photographs depicting various Tatum and Leeds family members, including Sarah Mickle Tatum and Lewis L. Tatum, and also Daniel Leeds and a picnic at the Joseph Sturge First Day School. In addition, there are commonplace books of Sarah M. Tatum, at least one kept while she was a student at Westtown Boarding School in Westtown, Pennsylvania, and of Lewis L. Tatum.

Morris/Engle Family Papers, 1820-1938 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Although the central figure in this collection is the Philadelphia Quaker businessman and philanthropist, T. Wistar Brown (1826-1916), it also includes materials relating to his father Moses Brown, mother Mary Wistar Brown, and wife Mary Farnum Brown, along with other members of the Brown family. Among the papers are correspondence, diaries, scrapbooks and deeds.

A Trip to Europe photo album, 1891

Abstract:: This photo album documents a trip to Europe in 1891. The album begins on the S.S. Waesland with many images of the passangers and crew. In Europe, Hemmenway visits Antwerp, Brussles, Cologne, Heidelberg, Baden-Baden, Pisa, Paris, London, Stratford, Chester, and Liverpool, as well as traveling down the Rhine by boat.

Abstract:: Watson Kintner entered the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated in 1916 with a degree in chemical engineering. The Watson Kintner Papers are a small collection containing the personal affects of Kintner. The bulk of the collection is comprised of photographs - many of the University of Pennsylvania's campus between 1911 and 1916 as well as a number of family images from the turn of the century.

Maberly family diaries, 1817-1870 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Small collection of family diaries comprises five volumes written by two authors, presumably father and son Charles Hensley Maberly and Alexander Cahill Maberly. The first four volumes were written in French by Charles Hensley spanning the years from 1817 to 1821. The fifth volume was written by Alexander Cahill Maberly in 1870 during a European tour.

Gotham Book Mart records, 1723-2006 (inclusive) 1967-2006 (bulk)

Abstract:: The Gotham Book Mart (1920-2006) was one of New York City's most iconic bookstores during the 20th century. Founded by Frances Steloff (1887-1989), the daughter of poor Russian-Jewish immigrants, the Book Mart became a social center for the New York literati and a focal point for literary modernism in the United States. Steloff's successor, independent literary manuscript dealer Andreas Brown (1933-), maintained the store's focus on avant garde and small press publications while incorporating his own interests in postcards and genealogy. This collection contains 91 boxes of material relating to the daily operation of the Book Mart; correspondence, biographical, and legal material from both Brown and Steloff; postcard and genealogical material collected by Brown; photographs of the store, its employees, and events which took place there; and manuscripts and ephemera offered for sale.

E. Sculley Bradley papers, 1876-1970 (inclusive) 1944-1962 (bulk)

Abstract:: Edward Sculley Bradley (1897-1987) was a scholar, author, educator, and administrator at the University of Pennsylvania. He was a prolific writer and editor, serving as editor of the General Magazine and History Chronicle, Philadelphia, 1945-1956. He published biographies of literary figures George Henry Boker and Henry Charles Lea, as well as editions of works by Mark Twain, Stephen Crane, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and Walt Whitman. Bradley was considered an international expert on Whitman, editing several important editions of the poet's Leaves of Grass. The Sculley Bradley papers include his personal and professional correspondence dating from 1923 to 1962, material from several literary censorship cases for which he testified, corrected drafts of his manuscripts for the Comprehensive Reader's Edition, Norton Critical Edition, and Variorum edition of Leaves of Grass, ephemera and graphics associated with Walt Whitman, and a small amount of material on other authors.
