The Society for Social Responsibility in Science was founded in 1949, the convening meeting and Constituting Assembly both held at Haverford College. It was conceived as an organization of workers in the natural sciences to maintain free inquiry concerning the relations of science and society. The collection provides an in-depth look at the founding, history, activities and correspondence of the Society for Social Responsibility in Science.

Friends' Reading Room Association records, 1835-1886

Abstract:
The Friends' Reading Room Association was founded in 1835, and dissolved in 1842. Its Constitution, included in the minutes, states its purpose: "An Institution in a central part of the city, which shall be furnished with a judcious selection of books, maps and periodical publications, calculated to promote moral and religous improvement, a knowledge of the principles and history of the Society of Friends and an acquiantance with the arts, science and general literature." This volume contains the minutes of the Friends' Reading Room Association, from 1835 - 1842, from the organization of the association, until its resolution and a register of members of the Western District Monthly Meeting, Philadelphia, from 1814 - 1886.

Abstract:
The papers of Emma Cadbury (1875-1965), a Quaker social worker, consist of correspondence, programs, essays, notebooks, and clippings. These papers were kept by Cadbury while attending Quaker Women's Yearly Meetings and summer schools at Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges and the George School (Pennsylvania), during the early 20th century.
