Abstract:: Sarah McCarron was a Red Cross nurse during World War I. She served in Germany, France, and the Balkans. Later she joined the American Legion, as well as many other organizations. This collection contains McCarron's wartime diaries, as well as correspondence and other personal and professional papers.

Abstract:: Ellen L. Kohler (1916-2008) taught classical archaeology at the University of Pennsylvania (Roman and Etruscan) from 1958 until 1980. Her early field work included excavations at Kourion, Cyprus (1949, 1951, 1955) and at Sybaris (1962), but her principal work was at Gordion, Turkey, where she assisted project director Rodney Young and later Keith DeVries during 18 seasons variously between 1950 and 1982, and in 1992. Her research interests included early Phrygian animal-style carvings in wood and ivory, but she later worked almost exclusively with the inventory of 6th to 7th century Gordion tumulus burial objects. Her principal report, The Lesser Phrygian Tumuli, Part 1, was published in 1995. Dr. Kohler also served as Assistant Curator of the Mediterranean Section of the University Museum from 1958 to 1965, Registrar from 1965 to 1977, and Research Associate from 1968 until her death in 2008. Abstract:: Cornelius Nolen Weygandt was born in Philadelphia in 1832 and had a career in banking at the Western Bank, located on the south side of Chestnut Street just west of Fourth Street, in the heart of Philadelphia's nineteenth-century financial district and lived most of his married life in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. The Cornelius Nolen Weygandt Papers consists of personal diaries and related correspondence and ephemera that chronicle Weygandt's life from 1849 – 1907.

Abstract:: The Moore family arrived in Philadelphia in the early nineteenth century and opened a wire company in the city. The Alfred Fitler Moore Family Papers consist of correspondence, diaries, financial material, photographs, and artifacts of Joseph and Cecelia (Fitler) Moore; their children William Joseph, Jr, and Alfred; as well as Cecelia's father and brother Alfred Fitler and Alfred Fitler, Jr. The bulk of the collection relates to Alfred Fitler Moore, benefactor of the Alfred Fitler Moore School of Electrical Engineering.

Abstract:: Dr. J. William White received his M.D. and Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1871. He began his career at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School in 1874, and rose through the ranks as a surgeon and specialist in Venereal Diseases. In 1912 White was named a Trustee of the University of Pennsylvania. White was also active in Philadelphia's civic life, and made extensive annual trips to Europe. The J. William White collection consists of scrapbooks of newspaper clippings, diaries in manuscript form and typescripts of those diaries, diplomas and certificates, pamphlets and books written by and about White and his family, and letters from White's voyage on Professor Louis Agassiz's Hassler Expedition of 1872.
