Records of the Hemlock Society of Delaware Valley II, 1991-1995 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Hemlock Society of Delaware Valley was a chapter of the national right-to-die organization The Hemlock Society. The mission of the Hemlock Society was "choice, dignity, and control at the end of life." The bulk of materials are society newsletters and news clippings about assisted suicide. This collection is separated into three series. The Chapter Papers series comprises miscellaneous papers associated with chapters of The Hemlock Society. Of note are papers detailing the merger of two Indiana Hemlock Societies and a report on cases of euthanasia, mercy killing, and suicide. The Events series contains program details of special events of the society. The Newsletters and Correspondence series houses local and national newsletters, as well as correspondence between Hemlock Society members. This collection was discovered during a survey in the summer and fall of 2015.

International Communication Association records, 1946-2016 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Originally established in 1950 as the National Society for the Study of Communication, the International Communication Association (ICA) has grown to be the largest worldwide academic organization devoted to the systematic study of communication. The collection is composed primarily of administrative records created and/or collected by various officers from 1946 to 2016, and serves to document the association's development over the years. Materials include correspondence, board meeting minutes and reports, bylaws and constitutions, conference proceedings, division records, financial records, membership records, and publication records.

Marion Spencer Fay Papers, 1946-1975 (bulk) 1925-1975 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Marion Spencer Fay (1898-1990) served as dean and president of the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania from 1943 to 1963 and promoted the recruitment of, education for, and recognition of women physicians. This collection includes the texts of many of Dr. Fay's speeches as well as a selection of professional and administrative papers from her time as dean and president of the Woman's Medical College of Pennsylvania.

Lewis, whose titles included "Imperial Representative" and "State Director Reclamation and Extension," and who operated out of Syracuse New York. This collection contains bulletins, newsletters, and correspondence relating to the "Realm of New York," specific records of the Maine, New York, chapter of the Ku Klux Klan, and Pro-Klan literature relating to the Ku Klux Klan, generally.

Katharine Sturgis presidential papers, 1972-1974 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Katharine Rosenbaum Guest Boucot Sturgis was born in Philadelphia in 1903, and graduated from Woman's Medical College of Philadelphia in 1940. Katharine R. Sturgis's connection with the College of Physicians of Philadelphia began in 1951 when she was elected a Fellow. In 1972, after more than twenty years as a member, Sturgis became the College's first woman president. A year later, she was forced to retire due to health problems. Sturgis died in Philadelphia in 1987. The Katharine R. Sturgis presidential papers date from 1972 to 1974, and consists of Council minutes; correspondence; and files related to a memorial service for former College President John H. Gibbon and a symposium on open heart surgery, both held in 1973. Researchers will find this collection completes the records found in CPP 2/002-01, Presidential papers of Katharine Sturgis, and CPP 2/002-02, General correspondence file of Katharine R. Sturgis.

Abstract:: Established in 1788, the Library of the College of Physicians served as Philadelphia's central medical library for over 150 years, serving medical schools, hospitals, physicians and other health professionals. Today, it is an independent research library devoted to the history of medicine and serves hundreds of scholars, health professionals, students and popular writers each year. The College of Physicians of Philadelphia Library records (1882 to 2005) extensively documents the administration of the College Library, as well as its public services and functions. The collection contains the papers of several librarians, curators, and other library staff, including Andrea Kenyon, Marjorie Smink, Elliott Morse, and Anthony Aguirre. The collection largely comprises correspondence, reports and records, and the bulk of the material dates from 1953 to 2007.

Abstract:: The Section on Medicine & the Arts was established on April 26, 1994, by approval of the College Council. The first informational meeting was held on April 20, 1995. As of 2019, the Section on Medicine & the Arts is still an active section. Its programs explore and nurture a more humanistic understanding of health, illness and medicine through the literary, visual and performing arts. The Records of the Section on Medicine & the Arts span the years 1982 through 2006, although the most of the material dates from 1993 to 2000. The collection is divided into three series, and includes meeting minutes of the Section's Executive Committee, lecture programs, and background information on the formation of the Section. Also included is a file relating to the Physicians Arts Festival, held on May 5, 1984, which may have encouraged the formation of the Section.
