Visiting Nurse Association of Allegheny County records, 1918-1990 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The records of the Visiting Nurse Association of Allegheny County document a wide range of issues in home nursing that appeared in the period from the association’s founding in 1919, up to the high-tech period of home care in the 1980s. The collection includes Board of Directors minutes, committee reports, and some substation files. There is a significant amount of material documenting the advances in the agency’s health care practices. One of the ways that home care changed was in moving away from the care of patients with declining communicable diseases such as tuberculosis, and moving towards more specialized care like chemotherapy. This collection also includes 300 photographs and several scrapbooks.

Abstract:
The Visiting Nurse Association of South Central Connecticut was founded in 1904 as the Visiting Nurse Association of New Haven. The Milford Visiting Nurse Association, founded in 1919, became part of the VNA of New Haven in 1966. This collection includes records mainly from the 1930s to 1990s. Documents include the Association's service evaluations, National League for Nursing accreditation, committee planning for meeting community health and service needs, annual reports (1960-1993) and service manuals.

Germantown Theatre Guild records, 1910-2009 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The Germantown Theatre Guild (GTG) in Philadelphia is one of the oldest small non-profit regional theatres in the country. Founded in 1933, the Theatre Guild continued (as of 2014) to operate out of the small carriage-house theatre and offices which are part of the historic residence built in 1742. The stage was the site of the first live televised theatre performance in the world in 1947. In 1970, the School District of Philadelphia built a theatre in the John B. Kelly school for the GTG to use for its Free Theatre for Children program. Known for years as “the theatre with a social conscience,” the GTG has had as its mission serving audiences that are out of the mainstream of the cultural experience, taking plays into rural communities, inner city schools, libraries, senior citizen and recreation centers, as well as prisons in three states. Abstract:
The Office of the Executive Director is the lead office in charge of administering the business of the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. The Executive Director oversees the activities of the College of Physicians staff including staff of the Historical Medical Library, the Mütter Museum, the Francis Clark Wood Institute, and the Finance Department. The Executive Director also oversees the College functions of institutional advancement, communications, membership, and special events. As a result, the records in this collection document the everyday administrative activities and governance of the College, and span the years 1953 to 2003 (Bulk 1977 to 2003). Documents consist of correspondence, memoranda, reports, pamphlets of outside organizations, financial reports, minutes, and agendas. This collection is divided into six series. Terence E. Carroll (1925-2009) was a public health advocate active in Detroit and Washington, D.C. He worked for the Michigan Credit Union League, the League Life Insurance Company, the National Institute on Rehabilitation and Health Services, the Comprehensive Health Planning Council of Southeastern Michigan, Public Health Information Services, and the National Association for Public Health Policy. The collection consists of personal materials, personal and professional correspondence, material on affiliated public health organizations, writings and speeches by Carroll and others, and photographs of Carroll's professional life.

The Hedgerow Theatre Company was established in 1923 by Jasper Deeter, a New York based actor and director. Located in the Rose Valley Arts and Crafts Community of Delaware County, Pennsylvania, Hedgerow holds the distinction as the longest serving Repertory Theatre in America. The Hedgerow Theatre Company records contains a wide variety of materials, from business records and show materials to member ephemera and photographs. The collection provides both a practical and intimate look into the workings of this repertory theatre.

These records document the creation and development of the LGBT Center and the larger support of the LGBTQ+ community at Penn; the advocacy and influence of Robert Schoenberg and Center staff within the University of Pennsylvania administration; and the influence of global LGBTQ+ issues at the campus level at Penn and more broadly in academia.

Abstract:
The Drexel Evening College was founded in 1891, as the Department of Lectures and Evening Classes within the Drexel Institute of Art, Science and Industry, and held its first classes in 1892. A program of study geared towards working adults, it offered courses in drawing, decorative painting, modeling, woodcarving, stained glass, mathematics, bookkeeping, stenography and typewriting, chemistry, physics, shop work in wood and iron, cookery, dressmaking, millinery, physical culture, economics, English and architecture. Since its inception, the Evening College has undergone significant academic, administrative and physical transformations, adapting to accommodate an ever changing student body as well as administrative and academic agendas.
