Abstract:

This volume traces the life of Frederic Carter, Surgeon-Major 1st Gurkha Regiment at Dharmsala, India. The diary spans from July 1867 through March 1883 where Carter documents his life in India, Pakistan, and England. Highlights of the journal include Carter's experiences in the Bengal army, his travels throughout India and Pakistan, managing an agricultural estate in India, his marriage and birth of his children, and a brief memoir discussing his childhood.
