Abstract:
Louis Henkin (1917-2010) was the Harlan Fiske Stone Professor of Constitutional Law, a position he held until he was designated University Professor in 1981. Henkin served as Chief Reporter for the Restatement of the American Law Institute's Restatement of the Foreign Relations Law of the United States (Third), a revision of the earlier Restatement and dealing with international law as it applies to the United States. The collection, 1973-1990, includes correspondence and related material compiled by Henkin during his appointment as Chief Reporter for the Restatement of the Law, Third: Foreign Relations Law of the United States.

William Warren papers (Federal Tax Projects), 1943-1966 (inclusive) 1950-1956 (bulk)

Abstract:
The William Warren papers (Federal Tax Projects) consists of Warren's papers related to the Federal Income, Estate, and Gift Tax project and Federal Income Tax Statute. In the mid-1940s, the American Law Institute (ALI) set about to analyze the law as it related to income tax. Known as the Income Tax Project, the primary objective was not to codify the law but to provide analysis of issues as they related to the United States' increasingly complex tax code. The Federal Income, Estate, and Gift Tax Project (as it would eventually be known) consisted of a series of non-binding recommendations to students, teachers, litigators, and legislators as they dealt with the evolving tax code. The ALI attributes Warren as the Associate Chief Reporter on the Federal Income, Estate, and Gift Tax project. This collection does not contain material related to Warren's work beyond the ALI's Federal Tax Projects and is arranged in two series within 72 bound volumes.

An expert in the field of corporate governance, Perkins played a major role in the drafting of the Principles of Corporate Governance: Analysis and Recommendations. The collection includes Perkins' files on this project as well as correspondence and subject files from his time as President of the American Law Institute.

Abstract:
Geoffrey C. Hazard, Jr. graduated from Swarthmore College in 1953 and received his LL.B. from Columbia University in 1954. Widely considered an authority on legal ethics, Hazard was Director of the American Law Institute from 1984 to 1999. During his tenure, the ALI worked on many restatement and codification projects, including a Restatement of the Law Governing Lawyers and revisions to the Uniform Commercial Code. The collections, 1982-1999, chiefly covers Hazard's activities as Director of the American Law Institute from 1984 to 1999.

The Executive Office of the American Law Institute (ALI) performs the organization's major administrative functions, including fundraising, negotiating publication of ALI materials, and coordinating ALI projects. The collection, 1923-1999, primarily includes letters written by and received from staff in the ALI's Executive Office, including the Director and Deputy Director.
