- Abstract:
- This collection of medical receipts includes billheads and receipts documenting a selection of the pharmaceutical offerings available to Americans in the mid nineteenth century. The bulk of the material is connected to P. Whitin and Sons, later renamed P. W. Dudley and Co., a company which manufactured textiles and machinery in Massachusetts during the nineteenth century. The company bought products from over forty retail establishments and dealers of health, hygiene, and other household chemicals and goods, probably to be sold at the company store.
