- Dr. John Hanson Briscoe (1789-1855) was an American doctor and veteran who earned his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1811 and practiced medicine in Maryland. This collection consists of 11 volumes plus 30 leaves of lecture notes taken by John Hanson Briscoe while a student at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Department, from 1808 to 1811. Included are lecture notes from courses taught by Benjamin Rush on therapeutics, as well as courses taught by Benjamin Smith Barton, Philip Syng Physick, John Redman Coxe and others.
