The collection contains the records of the Somerville Literary Society, including constitution, minutes, financial papers, writing, correspondence and material concerning the Lucretia Mott and Martha F. Tyson Scholarships

Eunomian Literary Society Records, 1872-1897 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Eunomian Literary Society was a men's debating and speaking club founded at Swarthmore College, Pa., in 1871. In 1913, the group merged with the Delphic Literary Society, forming the Athenaeum. Records include minutes from 1871 to May 1913. Also includes printed copies of the constitution and by-laws and correspondence from 1872 to 1900.

Abstract:: This collection contains 31 photograph albums, dating from approximately 1876 to 1975, that document Swarthmore College social life and campus views. Various sources donated the material, and the Friends Historical Library of Swarthmore College made an artifical collection in 3/2005 that combined all the photos into one group.

Swarthmore College Athletic Association Records, 1877-1926 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection contains records of the Swarthmore College Athletic Association (SCAA), a student organization that held various administrative responsibilities relating to men's athletics. It was founded in 1877 and dissolved ca. 1939. The collection also contains materials concerning the Athletic Advisory Committee, Athletic Committee, and Athletic Advisory Board, organizations that facilitated cooperation on athletic issues between the SCAA and alumni and faculty.

Joanna Wharton Lippincott Correspondence, 1877-1938 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Joanna Wharton Lippincott (1858-1938) was the eldest daughter of Joseph Wharton, prominent Philadelphia Quaker businessman and philanthropist. She was a lifelong Quaker and served on the Board of Managers of Swarthmore College. The collection consists primarily of family correspondence, and the majority of the correspondence is from Anna Lovering Wharton, her mother.

Abstract:: The American businessman John T. Diebold, founder of the Diebold Group, Inc. and author of the management classic Automation, was a graduate of Swarthmore College (class of 1949). This collection consists of 89 scrapbooks carefully constructed by Diebold to document his life and the major events of his business career and personal life.

John Russell Hayes Papers, 1880-1936 (inclusive)

Abstract:: John Russell Hayes (1866-1945) was a Quaker educator, poet, and Librarian of Swarthmore College, 1906-1927 and Friends Historical Library of Swarthmore College, 1927-1935. The collection contains letters received by Hayes, 1887-1936, diaries covering the period 1880-1935, and miscellaneous papers including an album of collected manuscript samples of contemporary poets. The diaries include poetry and cover personal and Swarthmore College activities and concerns.

Abstract:: This collection consists of 4 binders of original and copy photographs and negatives, dating from approximately 1880 to 2005, of the Swarthmore Borough, located in Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Many of the images were used in the book Swarthmore Illustrated: A Centennial History by Susanna K. Morikawa and Patricia C. O'Donnell (1993).
