Abstract:: Friends Conflict Resolution Programs of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, part of the Friends Suburban Project from 1977 to 1983, began as an attempt to utilize Quaker insights to address and solve disputes in local communities. Initially named the Friends Mediation Service, the Friends Conflict Resolution Programs acquired its current title in 1991. Its mediators work with both Quaker and non-Quaker organizations and communities and have published two manuals, The Mediator's Handbook (1982) and Peacemaking In Your Neighborhood (1986). In 1998, at the time of the reorganization of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, the Friends Conflict Resolution Programs were placed under the Peace and Concerns Standing Committee.

Abstract:: The Weekend Workcamps Program originated on the eve of World War II. It provides volunteers and opportunity to work in an inner city community, interact with neighbors, and dialog on peace and justice issues. Today the Friends' Workcamp Program operates under the auspices of Philadelphia Yearly Meeting's Standing Committee on Peace and Concerns. Records include minutes, reports, project files, correspondence, and other records from 1942 to the present.

Abstract:: William Morris Maier (1909-1982), a Haverford College graduate, was active in a wide variety of charitable organizations, especially those related to the Society of Friends. These papers consist of materials from his phlianthropic work with many organizations, including the Ludwick Institute, the Friends' Freedmen's Association, and the Emlen Institution.

Abstract:: Ross Flanagan (1934- ), is Quaker pacifist and activist, has been involved in many Quaker-sponsored projects, peace, and civil rights activities. In the 1950s he served on the staff of the American Friends Service Committee. He was an early protestor against the Vietnam war and worked with A Quaker Action Group in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In the 1970s Flanagan was involved in neighborhood revitalization projects in West Philadelphia.

Abstract:: S. Francis Nicholson was a prominent Quaker investment banker, longtime officer of Provident National Bank, Philadelphia, and active in Philadelphia Yearly Meeting, A.F.S.C., and Friends Fiduciary Corporation. The collection contains correspondence, financial records, memorabilia, and other papers reflecting his career and life with his wife, Evelyn Haworth Nicholson.

Abstract:: In response to the 1964 bombing of 44 black churches in Mississippi, Philadelphia and New York Yearly Meetings coordinated a joint effort to rebuild the destroyed churches and to attempt to foster racial reconciliation in the area. The project sent Lawrence and Viola Scott to Jackson, Mississippi as Quaker representatives. By 1966, the group had rebuilt 33 of the 44 churches, and built a community center in rural Canton, Mississippi. This collection is primarily composed of financial records, including accounts, invoices, receipts, bank statements, and invoices. It also includes correspondence for the Education Committee of PYM regarding publications, supplies, and pamphlets.
