Abstract:: Edward Parker Read (1868-1944) was a Black entrepreneur who mainly sold cure-alls. He also marketed himself as an extremely educated and successful man, and may have written several books and engaged in many other industries including publishing, insurance, financial, charitable, real estate and medical. This collection contains both personal materials relating to his wife Allie (1880-1965) as well as financial documents, advertisements, broadsides and correspondence relating to his many business endeavors.

Abstract:: Rev. Dr. Edmund Simon Lorenz was an American pastor, hymnist and composer who founded the Lorenz Publishing Company in 1890. The Lorenz and Zehring family papers documents the descendants and history of these families. Materials comprise: photographs, scrapbooks, correspondence, music, printed materials, some audiovisual, poems, plays, report cards, minutes, clippings, diaries, certificates, genealogy research and family histories.

Abstract:: Photographic collection of a notable 20th century Afro-Mexican pianist and socialite, Miss Emmett Estelle Grigsby. Images are mostly of Black men, women, and children and include Miss Emmett and her various family members and friends at home, traveling, and on the road in a variety of settings such as Mexico, Texas and California. Also inlcuded are a few scrapbook album pages with newspaper clippings of Emmett Grigsby.

C.M. Jones recipe book, circa 1805

Abstract:: This volume was written and compiled around 1805 by C.M. Jones, who likely lived in England. This volume contains 22 recipes attributed to numerous individuals known to Jones. Of the recipes, nine are for wines, five are culinary, and eight are for household products.

Mary Rawson Bush diary of a trip to France and Italy, 1822 november-1823 march (inclusive)

Abstract:: Mary Rawson Bush (1790-1841) traveled from England throughout Europe from November 1822 to at least March 1823 with her husband Major General William Bush (1790-1854). The couple traveled through France and the Alps to Italy, via a carriage, stopping at inns along their route. Mary's commentary details their travels in the carriage, their stops in cities, museums visited, and her opinions of her experience.

Bill Goring collection of Art Rosenblum material, 1968-1970 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Arthur "Art" Rosenblum (circa 1928-2002) was a community enthusiast, peace activist, and artist, known for founding the Aquarian Research Foundation. This collection was by compiled by Rosenblum's friend and fellow radical activist Bill Goring of New York, New York, and consists primarily of Rosenblum's published writing (newsletters and articles), as well a letter and some notes about the Bruderhof, dating from 1968 to 1970.

Abstract:: This volume contains 131 culinary, household, and medical recipes created or compiled primarily by A. Fielden of Stansfield Cottage, Todmorden, England between 1888 and 1894. There are several other hands present in this volume, including at least two contemporary to A. Fielden and one from the early or mid-20th century. This 20th century contributer wrote numerous recipes and annotated the 19th-century recipes with genealogical information about their creators.

Barry Wallenstein collection of James T. Farrell material, 1960-2005 (inclusive) 1963-1979 (bulk)

Abstract:: Barry Wallenstein met James T. Farrell in the early 1960s and the two developed a professional and personal relationship. Wallenstein and Farrell began collaborating on a collected work of Farrell's letters, entitled Selected Letters of James T. Farrell, in which Wallenstein would serve as editor. Farrell broke the contract for the book, 6 months after signing with Summit Books. These letters, articles, clippings, invitations, legal documents, interviews and diary excerpts provide documentation of the ill-fated publication project.
