Abstract:: Born in Bloomington, Indiana in 1884, Mary Hamilton Swindler graduated from the University of Indiana in 1905 and received her master's degree from the same university in 1906. Swindler first came to Bryn Mawr College in 1906 as a graduate scholar in Greek. From 1912 until 1949 she taught Archaeology and Classics at the college. The collection consists of loose correspondence received from the Archaeology Department, scrapbooks and notebooks, miscellaneous correspondence and manuscript drafts.

Mary C. Davidow collection of research materials on the life and career of Charlotte Mew (1869-1928), 1869-1928 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Charlotte Mary Mew (15 November 1869 – 24 March 1928) was an English poet. She contributed a number of short stories to the Temple Bar as well as the Yellow Book. She is best known for her book of poems The Farmer's Bride, published by Harold Monro's Poetry Bookshop in 1916. She committed suicide while depressed. These materials were collected by Mary C. Davidow in the process of writing her Ph.D. dissertation at Brown University (1960) on the life and work of Charlotte Mew. The collection includes correspondence, miscellaneous notes, and over 100 photocopies of letters written by Mew to Hardy, Cockerell, Alida Monro, May Sinclair, and others.

Dr. Mavis Kelsey Collection of Adams-Harris Papers, 1814-1820 (inclusive)

Abstract:: John Quincy Adams, later President of the United States, acted as Chief Plenipotentiary of the American delegation negotiating the Treaty of Ghent, and ending the War of 1812. Levett Harris was the American Consul (later the Charge d'Affaires) in Russia at this time. Adams's letters containing observations on the course of the negotiations, mediated by the Emperor Alexander, to Levett Harris are included in this collection. Harris, when later seeking appointment as Minister to Russia, was accused of having used his previous office corruptly for his personal gain. The collection also includes a statement in Harris' hand of his defense against this charge. W. D. Lewis, an American merchant residing in Russia during Harris' time there, returned to the U.S. in 1819 and made the accusation. S. F. Bemis describes the charge in his J. Q. Abstract:: The Deanery was the home of the first Dean and second President of Bryn Mawr College, M. Carey Thomas, from 1885 to 1933. From 1933 until 1968, when the building was demolished for the construction of Canaday Library, the building served as the college's Alumnae Center and Inn. The collection is comprised primarily of Deanery records, mostly inventories of the building, and the files of Carol Campbell, Curator of Art and Artifacts in Bryn Mawr College's Special Collections

Abstract:: The John Taylor Arms papers holds both JTA's personal and artistic records along with records of organizations and projects that he was involved in. Abstract:: Dorothy North Haskins (1886-1962), BMC 1909, was a relief worker in France, Austria, and Chicago during and after WWI, acting as part of the American Friends Service Committee. The Papers include many letters written during this time, official reports and documents on relief work, diaries, and photographs.
