Abstract:: Laurence Salzmann (born 1944) is a photographer and filmmaker from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Over the course of his career, he has focused on social commentaries on little known groups in America and abroad, with a particular emphasis on the Jewish people in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. This collection contains a significant portion of the photographic output from Salzmann's long career. Researchers will find black and white and color photographs dating from 1967 to 2018; as well as other photographic, book, and film project documentation, such as book mock ups, exhibition publicity and planning, and biographical sketches of subjects of photographs. In addition to the physical prints, Salzmann also gifted digital copies of some of his prints which are available on Colenda (https://colenda.library.upenn.edu/).

Abstract:: Arthur Tress (born 1940) is an American photographer and collector of Japanese illustrated books and prints. This collection contains photographic prints from fourteen of Tress's series. His style has often been described as "staged surrealism" but his body of work includes a diverse range of approaches. Included in the collection are black and white and color prints, the majority of which were taken in New York City (including Staten Island, Coney Island, the Bronx, Brooklyn, and Manhattan), San Francisco, and San Luis Obispo, California, dating from 1967 to 2015.

Abstract:: Sam Frank (1920-2007) was a Jewish photographer who documented Israel and its people from the 1950s to the 1970s. The collection consists of almost 1500 images (in the forms of print, contact print/sheet, and negative) of many aspects of life in the newly established state of Israel.

Rau (1855-1920) was a prominent Philadelphia photographer and the official photographer for the St. Louis world's Fair in 1904 and of the Lewis and Clark Centennial Exposition in 1905. This collection of twelve photographs from his studio at 1324 Chestnut St. in Philadelphia depicts various buildings and scenes around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Abstract:: Arab photographer Chalil Raad, also known as Khalil Ra'd, photographed the dedication of the Augusta Victoria complex located on the northern side of Mount of Olives in East Jerusalem in 1910. This photograph album contains interior and exterior black and white photographs of the Augusta Victoria Church and Hopsice, dignitaries, including Prince Eitel Friedrich and Duchess Sofia Charlotte of Prussia, who attended the dedication ceremony.
