Abstract:
This collection contains mass-produced prints that have some social or cultural interest. Included in this category are historical prints for popular audiences, caricature prints from newspapers or one-offs, and military prints that were maybe cartoons. These prints do not fall into any clear scientific or art historical categories. They are representative of the popular and wide-reaching aspects of print culture in the 19th century.

Abstract:
Charles R. Pancoast (1854-1931) was a photographer in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania active from the 1870s to 1922. In his shop, Pancoast developed his own photographs as well as those of other photographers. He enjoyed traveling and captured many images from foreign locations. Charles R. Pancoast lantern slides, late 19th century-early 20th century, consist of over twelve hundred slides taken by Pancoast in Philadelphia and during his travels throughout the North America, Asia, the Middle East, and South America.

Carolyn J. Swartz lantern slide collection, late 19th century-early 20th century, consists of approximately one hundred and twenty-six images depicting paintings and other artworks; images from Mercer County, NJ; travel/tourist scenes from California, Virginia, and other places; and other images. Several of the images are published, but there are some original images, possibly taken by Thomas H. Hibbert. The published images are from the Victor Animatograph Company, based in Davenport, Iowa.

Abstract:
Founded in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1824, in honor of America's first scientist, Benjamin Franklin, The Franklin Institute is one of the oldest and most important science institutes in the nation. Its mission is to inspire a passion for learning about science and technology. The Historical and Interpretive Collections of The Franklin Institute aviation lantern slides collection, late 19th century-early 20th century, consists of over sixty lantern slides depicting early forms of flight, including monoplanes, biplanes, triplanes, balloons, and various forms of airships (including zeppelins). Also depicted are aerodromes.

Abstract:
Randall J. Newsome (b. 1950) graduated from the University of Cincinnati Law School in 1975. In 1998, Newsome was appointed to the Northern District of California's bankruptcy court, where he became Chief Judge in 2004. Randall Newsome has served as a faculty member for the Federal Judicial Center since 1987. He joined the National Conference of Bankruptcy Judges in 1983, serving as President from 1998-1999. He is a fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy. The collection (1993-2004) includes audio cassette tapes of interviews with important figures in bankruptcy law, conducted by Newsome.

In 1964, the American Law Institute (ALI) secured funding to examine and codify the law relating to land use and development. The resulting document was the Model Land Development Code, adopted by the ALI in May 1975. The collection, 1960-1974 and undated, includes preliminary studies, drafts, memoranda, correspondence, and related material concerning the drafting and adoption of the Model Land Development Code.

This project culminated in "Recognition and Enforcement of Foreign Judgments: Analysis and Proposed Federal Statute," which would impose uniform standards for recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments throughout the United States. It also includes a comprehensive review of current law and discussion of the constitutional basis for federal legislation on the subject of foreign judgments. The project was formerly known as the International Jurisdiction and Judgments Project. This collection consists of one item: Council Draft No. 2, 2002 September 30.

John Dickinson Notebooks, 1940s (inclusive)

Abstract:
John Dickinson was born in Greensboro, Maryland in 1894. He was a descendent of John Dickinson, who drafted the Articles of Confederation. After teaching American and Medieval history, Dickinson earned his Ph.D. from Princeton University in 1919. That same year, he enrolled at Harvard Law School, where he received his LL.B. degree in 1921. At the time, Dickinson practiced law in New York and Los Angeles. He also was a noted writer, publishing his Administrative Law and the Supremacy of Nations in 1927. A pioneering work in administrative law, the book is widely regarded as a legal classic. After stints teaching at Harvard and Princeton, Dickinson accepted an offer to teach at the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1929, where he remained until his resignation in 1948. Dickinson taught on a range of topics, including constitutional law and medieval theory. He continued to write articles and books. Abstract:
Peter McCall was born in Trenton, New Jersey in 1809. McCall was Professor of practice, pleading, and evidence at law and in equity at Penn Law School. After resigning his post at the Law School, he became a University Trustee. McCall was active in Philadelphia public life, serving as mayor in 1844 and as Chancellor of the Law Academy of Philadelphia, the oldest law association in the United States, from 1873 until his death in 1880.
