Bradford Lyttle Papers, 1954- (inclusive)

Abstract:
Bradford [Brad] Lyttle is a long time leading peace activist involved in the promotion of nonviolence for social change and the elimination of war and nuclear weapons. Lyttle was the organizer of the San Francisco to Moscow walk in the 1960-1961, to highlight the message of disarmament and nonviolent resistance and bringing together U.S. and Soviet citizens together during the height of the Cold War. He went on to organize and participate in other marches and protests, including the Quebec - Washington - Guantanamo Walk for Peace, during which he and twenty other marchers were jailed by police in Albany, Georgia. During the Vietnam war Lyttle coordinated many organizations and demonstrations against the war. In 1983 he founded the United States Pacifist Party and ran for president in the 1984 elections. Lyttle continues to work for peace around the world. He has been a war tax resister, worked with peace projects and refugees in Bosnia and Croatia, and has been arrested many...(see more)

Federation Early Learning Services (FELS), a non-profit agency providing early childhood education for children ranging in age from infants to school age children, was established in 1973 as Federation Day Care Services (FDCS) from the merger of two independent day care agencies, Samuel Paley Day Care Center and Downtown Children's Center. A constituent of the Jewish Federation of Greater Philadelphia, FDCS sought to bring independent child care agencies serving the Jewish population under one umbrella organization "to strengthen family life by providing the supplementary service of day care as a constructive, educational and recreational experience." The Federation Early Learning Services Records document the organization's activities as an early childhood education organization and day care facility serving the Jewish community in Philadelphia. Emmanuel Roblès (1914-1995) was a French-Algerian author and playwright. James A. Kilker (1925-2012) was an American professor of French Studies and French translator, notably of Emmanuel Roblès' works. The James and Marie Kilker collection of Emmanuel Roblès material dates from 1941 to 2023, spans five linear feet, and primarily consists of material relating to Roblès' work and career, correspondence between the Kilkers and Roblès, and published material by Roblès. There is also material relating to other Algerian-born European authors and playwrights.
