American Friends Fellowship Council Records, 1933-1954 (inclusive)

Abstract:
The American Friends Fellowship Council had its origin in the Fellowship Committee of the American Friends Service Committee. Founded in 1933, its primary purpose was to foster an increased interest in Quakerism throughout the United States and to draw all Friends groups into closer sympathy and fellowship. The Fellowship Council merged with the Friends World Committee, American Section, in 1954. The collection includes correspondence and administrative records, minutes, financial statements, membership lists, publicity, correspondence about new meetings, Intervisitation, and Wider Quaker Fellowship, 1933-1954.

Abstract:
T. Atkinson Jenkins (1868-1935) was a Quaker and a university professor. The collection contains chiefly correspondence, questionnaires, notes, clippings, and other papers, relating to Jenkins's collection of information on Friends' attitudes to the Mexican and Civil wars, information which was designed to be part of the reassessment of the Quaker peace testimony in preparation for the first Friends World Conference (London, 1920). Also includes bibliography of Jenkins' writings on French language and literature.

Abstract:
Richmond Pearson Miller (1902-1972) was a Quaker author and educator. He was the son of J. Milton and Sara G. Miller In 1926 Alice Leinbach. He died in 1972. This collection contains the papers of Richmond P. Miller, Quaker author and educator, including correspondence, writings, and papers relating to various Quaker concerns. Miller was involved with the 1962 NBC television production, Gentle Persuaders; the William Penn Tercentenary in 1964; the William Jeanes Memorial Library controversy; and the United Nations. In addition, he was involved in commemorative events at Quaker meeting houses, the All Friends Conference in Oskaloosa, 1929, First Day Schools, Friends Peace Committee, National Conference on the Churches and Social Welfare in Cleveland, 1961, the Ohio Yearly Meeting Sesquicentennial in 1962, School of Mysticism in New York, 1929, World Conference of Friends in 1952, and Young Friend Caravan in 1925.

Charles E. (Charles Eugene) Fager Papers, 1976-1999 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Charles Eugene Fager is a Quaker writer, publisher, educator, and activist. Born in 1942, "Chuck" Fager graduated from Colorado State University and attended Harvard Divinity School. After working for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference in Selma, Alabama, he performed Vietnam CO alternative service at Friends World College in 1966. He left FWC the following year, devoting his time to writing and freelance work. In the mid 1980s Fager started Kimo Press, a small publishing operation and began to edit "A Friendly Letter," an independent Quaker periodical. "A Friendly Letter" was discontinued in early 1993 after 134 issues. In 1994, Chuck Fager joined the staff of Pendle Hill, a Quaker center for study and contemplation near Philadelphia, as coordinator of the Pendle Hill Issues Program.. Edwin Bronner was chair of the Executive Committee of the American Section, but there was worldwide representation by Friends and guests. A well known speaker at the conference was U.N. Secretary General U Thant.

Abstract:
Journals, reports, and surveys written by Harold Chance documenting his visits to and continuing relationships as an AFSC staff member with Evangelical Friends meetings, mostly in the western United States. The collection includes nine journals, 1949-1956, Friends Peace Service evaluation surveys, 1956 & n.d., and a number of miscellaneous reports to Friends Peace Service Council. Among the former is a report on the Second American Conference of Evangelical Friends (1950) and one on the Student Conference on Peace and International Relations (1955).
