Abstract:
As a former United States Senator from Pennsylvania, chair of America's Promise, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service, and Special Assistant to President John F. Kennedy, Harris Wofford dedicated much of his career and personal life to advocating for public service. The Harris Wofford papers contain over 400 linear feet of extensive notes, research files, writings, correspondence, political papers and audio/visual recordings documenting an impressive career of a citizen passionate about activism. While not entirely complete in its scope of Wofford's life due to many key records from the 1960s being lost in a fire early in his career, the collection nonetheless provides an invaluable resource for those interested in politics, human rights, public service, education, and law. American Law Institute Statement of Essential Human Rights Project records, 1924-2008 (inclusive)

Abstract:
In the midst of World War II, the American Law Institute convened a committee in 1941 to study the international community's position regarding human rights law. The committee's charge was to develop a Statement of Essential Human Rights. William Draper Lewis, then Director of the American Law Institute, was chair of the committee and the project's most outspoken advocate, touring the world to deliver speeches on the importance of a code of basic human rights. International in scope and in participation, the committee included representatives from Britain, Canada, China, France, pre-Nazi Germany, Italy, India, Latin America, Poland, Soviet Russia, Spain, and Syria. A version of the Statement of Essential Human Rights was finalized in 1945. Philadelphia Yearly Meeting Records: Committee on the Civil Rights of Homosexuals (1972-1987), 1975-1987 (inclusive)

Abstract:
In 1972, Philadelphia Yearly Meeting appointed a Committee on Homosexuality under the Meeting for Social Concerns to work for the assurance of civil rights for homosexuals. In December of 1975, after the Meeting for Social Concerns was laid down and Yearly Meeting restructured, it was decided that there should be a subcommittee of the Family Relations Committee on homosexuality and a Committee for the Civil Rights of Homosexuals under the Testimonies/Concerns section of Yearly Meeting; the two groups met jointly. In 1987, the Committee on Civil Rights for Homosexuals decided to lay itself down; the Subcommittee on Homosexuality continued as part of the Family Relations Committee. Includes records of the Committee on Civil Rights for Homosexuals, 1975-1987.

Eliot Stellar, a noted physiological psychologist, was a professor in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Pennsylvania from 1960 – 1993, and provost from 1973 – 1978. He was also active in many professional societies, including the American Philosophical Society. The Eliot Stellar Papers, 1938-1993, document the professional activities of Dr. Stellar -- his teaching, research, his administrative duties at the University of Pennsylvania, as well as his responsibilities with other organizations outside the University.
