Andrew Newman typescript, 1995

Abstract:: Andrew Newman Typescript is a typescript of "From a Surgeon's Viewpoint: Philadelphia Shriners Hospital 1925-1995." Written by Dr. Andrew Newman, a Philadelphia-area doctor, the typescript serves as a brief history of the Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia in response to the hospital's relocation to North Broad Street and the demolition of the original hospital building. Includes photocopies of curriculum vitaes, ALS, photographic prints, and patient records. This collection was discovered during a survey in the summer and fall of 2015.

Abstract:: The Babies' Hospital of Philadelphia opened in 1911 in Wynnefield, PA, at the Country Branch of Children's Hospital. The hospital had limited wards to house its patients and the staff hosted pre-and post-natal clinics for mothers, though the physicians of the Babies Hospital largely emphasized treatment in the home. The records of the Babies' Hospital of Philadelphia, spanning from 1911-1960, contain annual reports, newsletter pamphlets, benefit matinee programs, material related to H. Lea Hudson for both the Babies' Hospital of Philadelphia and the Fife-Hamill Memorial Health Center for Southeast Philadelphia, corporate reports, photographs, and film. Please be aware that the Library does not have the required hardware for viewing photographic negatives or 16mm film.

Diagnostic Hospital of Philadelphia Records, 1861-1920 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Charity Hospital was first incorporated in 1861, with the goal of providing medical assistance to the industrial and manufacturing workers of Philadelphia. In 1920 the Board of Trustees petitioned the state to amend the Hospital's Chart by changing the name to Diagnostic Hospital. The Diagnostic Hospital Records detail the administrative and financial aspects of Charity Hospital in the late Nineteenth and early Twentieth Centuries.

Medico-Chirurgical College and Hospital of Philadelphia Records, 1881-1955 (inclusive) 1881-1922 (bulk)

Abstract:: The Medico-Chirurgical College had its origins in 1848 as the Medico-Chirurgical Society, but it would not be until 1881 that Dr. George P. Oliver, who had been a member of the old society and held title to the new charter, organized a faculty to hold classes. In 1916 Medico-Chirurgical College's Department of Medicine and the Department of Dentistry merged with the University of Pennsylvania. The Medico-Chirurgical College and Hospital of Philadelphia Records consist mainly of administrative and financial records for the College and Hospital from the late nineteenth through to it's merger with the University of Pennsylvania in 1916.
