Abstract:: At Swarthmore classes in dance technique have been offered as part of the physical education curriculum for men and women since the 1940s. The study of dance at Swarthmore College became part of the performing arts program in the late 1970s and was established as a major and minor in course and Honors in 1999. The collection contains materials relating to the the Swarthmore Folk Festival and other folk dance activities at Swarthmore (known as the "Co-Ed Dance Club"), as well as documents dating from after Dance was established as an academic program at Swarthmore, including materials collected for tributes to Pat Boyer, the first Director of Dance.

Abstract:: The Philadelphia Dance Company, more commonly known as Philadanco, was founded in 1970 by Joan Myers Brown. It was originally intended to provide quality dance instruction to minority dancers in Philadelphia. At first the Company performed at local community events and schools in the area, but later it built a strong international reputation for itself. The Joan Myers Brown Philadanco papers, circa 1970-1991, include business correspondence received by Brown, advertisements and season booklets, newspaper clippings, reviews, and photographs.

Abstract:: Batsheva Dance Company, founded in 1964, is a dance ensemble based in Tel Aviv, Israel. This collection consists of black and white photographs of twelve performances by the Batsheva Dance Company. None of the photographs are dated, but the photographs were probably taken from the foundation of the Company through the 1970s.
