Abstract:
Gwynne P. Smith (1924-2010) was a Republican politician and community activist who served as a state representative in the Delaware General Assembly from 1974 to 1990, representing Delaware's 10th (1975-1982) and 7th (1983-1990) districts (Green Acres). The Gwynne P. Smith papers document the civic activities and legislative career of a woman committed to protecting the environment and improving the quality of life in Delaware. Consisting of 17.5 linear feet and oversized materials, her papers include logs, notes, correspondence, campaign records, voter registration lists, news clippings, state documents, draft legislation, legislative issue files, newsletters, brochures, realia, photographs, audio-visual materials and oversized maps.

Martha McAvoy King (1904-1997) of Phoenixville, Chester County, Pennsylvania was a life-long activist-volunteer and leader in local civic affairs. Specifically, she was involved in numerous social service programs relating to health and human services, education, and housing. The Martha McAvoy King collection on Chester County (Pa.) human services, circa 1950-1980, includes papers relating to her volunteer activities, primarily her involvement with Chester County's Children's Services Advisory Committee and the county's housing authority. Materials include reports, correspondence, minutes, financial papers, and membership lists.

Abstract:
Martin Evoy (1903-1991), a management engineer by profession, was a local civic activist in the Abington area of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. He worked with various neighborhood groups including the Rydal-Meadowbrook Civic Association, Resident Owners of the Harte Tract, and the Noble Improvement Association. The Martin Evoy papers, 1953-1989, are comprised of records of the various groups and projects in which he was involved. There is also a small amount of personal papers relating to Evoy's service in World War II.

Edward Platts and Ralph Bayfield collection on the Evansburg dam, 1960-1975 (inclusive)

In the 1960s, the Pennsylvania Department of Forests and Waters began planning a 86 foot dam in the Skippack Valley area of Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Local opposition, including several members of St. James' Episcopal Church, was strong, and the Evansburg dam was never built. The Edward Platts and Ralph Bayfield collection on the Evansburg dam, 1960-1975, consists of five scrapbooks, several government reports, research on dams, and a map.

M. Rosalie Dryden Peirsol (1913-2005), a long-time resident of Swarthmore, Pennsylvania, was a dedicated civic and environmental activist. During the 1970s and 1980s, Peirsol was one of the lead players responsible for compelling the local government to implement a county-wide recycling program in Delaware County, Pa. The Rosalie Peirsol collection on implementing recycling in Delaware County, Pa., 1973-1990, consists of materials created and collected by Rosalie Peirsol. The major organizations that are represented in the collection include Delaware County Recycling Advisory Committee, Delaware County Solid Waste Advisory Committee, and Recycling Into Cash and Energy (RICE).
