Abstract:
This collection contains a brief look into the life and career of Ahron Jay Cristol, the current chief judge of the Florida bankruptcy court, a lecturer in law of naval warfare, and a former US Navy aviator and lawyer in the Judge Advocate General's Corps. The collection contains series of Cristol's work as a legal scholar and bankruptcy judge, including testimony given before the US House of Representatives, various speeches given at events and lectures, and a small series of legal opinions written by Cristol, including some written in poetic verse. Also included are some audio tapes of interviews given by Cristol and a series of personal photographs commemorating his career and service. The collection is a snapshot of the long, colorful, and impressive career of Judge Cristol.

Judge Arthur N. Votolato papers, 1968-1986 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Judge Arthur N. Votolato was the first bankruptcy judge to sit in Rhode Island, and for 44 years, he was the only U.S. bankruptcy judge to serve the state. He served on the First Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel, Massachusetts and Maine panels. He was Chief Judge, Massachusetts' B.A.P. from 1981 to 1984. The Judge Arthur N. Votolato papers is a small collection of material relating to Votolato's work in bankruptcy law. The collection contains Bankruptcy Appellate Panel materials including correspondence, notes, and outlines, as well as case files, reports, publications including The Conference Newsletter, The Silver Whistle, and other related documents.

Abstract:
Harry Dixon Jr. (1944-2006), a lawyer from Nebraska, wanted to form an organization with the dual purpose of providing Congress with expert and unbiased views on legislation and creating an institution that could keep the bankruptcy community aware of legislative activities affecting them. In February 1982, Dixon incorporated under Nebraska law this new organization which was to be called the American Bankruptcy Institute (ABI). The records of the American Bankruptcy Institute document two main areas of the organization: the history and operating activities of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the organization's professional activities, publications, and research on bankruptcy related issues. The materials date from 1982-2013, with the bulk from 1985-1996. Abstract:
Enron Corporation was an American energy, commodities, and services company based in Houston, Texas. Enron began as a pipeline company in Houston in 1985, and later, under the direction of former Chairman Kenneth L. Lay, Enron expanded into an energy broker, trading electricity and other commodities. Enron filed for bankruptcy protection in the Southern District of New York during late 2001 and selected Weil, Gotshal & Manges as its bankruptcy counsel. The collection is largely comprised of the interim reports of Neal Batson, the Court Appointed Examiner.

Judge Robert E. Ginsberg served as a bankruptcy judge in the Northern District of Illinois. He was a member of the Board of the Federal Judicial Center from 1987 to 1991, and Chair of the Center's Bankruptcy Education Committee from 1989 to 1992. He was appointed to the National Bankruptcy Review Commission in 1995 by Chief Justice William Rehnquist. Daniel Glosband was one of the primary draftsmen of Chapter 15 of the Bankruptcy Code, which was enacted as part of The Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) in 2005. Drafting began in as early as 1997. The Daniel Glosband Papers: 2005 Bankruptcy Reform, is a small collection comprised of five series: Administrative Records; Drafts, 2000; Drafts, 1999; United States Advisory Group; and Chapter 15 Rules.

Abstract:
Daniel Glosband is the International Bar Association's official liaison of the Creditors Rights and Insolvency Committee to the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) and was one of the primary draftsmen of the UNCITRAL Model Law on Cross-Border Insolvency. Since its establishment in 1966, UNCITRAL has been recognized as the core legal body of the United Nations system in the field of international trade law. This collection consists of nine series covering correspondence, code references, drafts, articles, Glosband's notes, organizational reports, and Glosband's business travel documents dated 1888, 1937-1938, 1978-2005 and undated.

Norman H. Nachman (1909-2001) worked as a Chicago bankruptcy attorney for 60 years, served as President of the Chicago Bar Association, and helped to draft new bankruptcy code. His colleagues named him the "Dean of U.S. Bankruptcy Lawyers." This collection, dated 1983-1998, consists of materials relating to Nachman's career in bankruptcy law and includes case documents, reports on aspects of bankruptcy law, Nachman's daily appointment calendars, business correspondence dated 1992-1998, and various publications including law journals and books authored by his colleagues.

The Leonard M. Rosen Papers consists of the records of The National Bankruptcy Conference (NBC) Meeting and Administrative Records belonging to Mr. Rosen. Leonard M. Rosen was a prominent American bankruptcy attorney, and a co-founder of the New York firm Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz. . Rosen contributed to the drafting of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code, taught as an adjunct professor at NYU and served as chairman of the National Bankruptcy Conference from 1984 to 1992.

Mark B. McFeeley has well over thirty-five years of experience practicing law in America, of which twenty-eight years (1981-2009) was dedicated to serving as a bankruptcy judge for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Mexico. Judge McFeeley was instrumental in forming the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel for the Tenth Circuit. As a bankruptcy judge, McFeeley was intimately involved with the Bankruptcy Crisis of the 1980s that called into question the constitutionality of the bankruptcy system and the appointment of bankruptcy judges after the Marathon Pipeline decision in June of 1982. In 1984, Judge McFeeley was one of four bankruptcy judges who filed suit against the Administrative Office of the United States Courts. William Foley, the Administrative Office's director, had refused to pay bankruptcy judges, arguing that parts of the Bankruptcy Amendments and Federal Judge Act of 1984 were unconstitutional. Randall J. Newsome attended Boston University for his Bachelor of Arts in 1972 and the University of Cincinnati College of Law for his Juris Doctor in 1975. With 28 years of experience serving as a settlement and bankruptcy judge, Judge Newsome is best known for his intelligent and pragmatic approach to resolving complex matters and he is frequently sought out as a national speaker on topics related to bankruptcy. Judge Newsome devoted much of his career handling local and national bankruptcy issues. Not only was Judge Newsome vocal about bankruptcy reform for consumers, but he was also actively involved with the ongoing legislative battles over bankruptcy reform, particularly during the ever changing Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) in the late 1990s. Judge David H. Adams is a retired American bankruptcy attorney and judge, having practiced privately many years and served as a US Bankruptcy Court judge. This collection includes his personal materials ranging from 1984-2006, consisting mainly of materials concerning the National Conference of Bankruptcy judges, in which Judge Adams was heavily involved, on its Board of Governors from 1996-1999, its secretary in 2000, and its president in 2004. The collection includes much correspondence between NCBJ members from 1984-2006, event and conference data from many of the yearly NCBJ conferences, as well as budget, committee, and resolution data from those years, illustrating the planning processes and behind the scenes information about the NCBJ and its activities, members, and meetings.

Abstract:
The William Warren papers (Federal Tax Projects) consists of Warren's papers related to the Federal Income, Estate, and Gift Tax project and Federal Income Tax Statute. In the mid-1940s, the American Law Institute (ALI) set about to analyze the law as it related to income tax. Known as the Income Tax Project, the primary objective was not to codify the law but to provide analysis of issues as they related to the United States' increasingly complex tax code. The Federal Income, Estate, and Gift Tax Project (as it would eventually be known) consisted of a series of non-binding recommendations to students, teachers, litigators, and legislators as they dealt with the evolving tax code. The ALI attributes Warren as the Associate Chief Reporter on the Federal Income, Estate, and Gift Tax project. This collection does not contain material related to Warren's work beyond the ALI's Federal Tax Projects and is arranged in two series within 72 bound volumes.
