Abstract:: The Teaching Nursing Home Program sheds light on the innovated national project funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and administered by the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Nursing to improve nursing home care for the elderly, develop university nursing education, and inspire nurses to explore gerontology. Documents include project correspondence, minutes, annual reports, and other administrative records. It also includes the individual universities’ reports and findings during their funded years as well as the unfunded applications of other universities.

Abstract:: Archie and Mary Hanlan are known for their writings, educational efforts, and research on thanatology. Archie Hanlan lived with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) for two years before his death in 1973. During his illness, he wrote and taught about the experience of death and caring for the dying. Abstract:: Mary Alice Rothrock was a Pennsylvania nurse. A graduate of Lankenau Hospital School of Nursing, her career spanned over fifty years. Rothrock's papers and scrapbook document her correspondence with a friend overseas during World War I, her involvement in politics, her membership and activities in Pennsylvania nurse organizations, and her later jobs at Clearfield Hospital and the Albert Einstein Medical Center.
