Abstract:
George F. Parry (1838-1886) of Bucks County, Pennsylvania, was one of the first veterinarians (and probably the first from Pennsylvania) to receive professional veterinary training in the United States. He graduated from the Boston Veterinary Institute in 1859, served as a veterinary surgeon with the 7th Pennsylvania Cavalry during the Civil War, and owned a farm and conducted a private practice in Newtown, Pennsylvania, from shortly after the war until his death at age 48. George married Sarah E. Hough and the couple had two children. This collection of volumes from the Parry family consists mostly of personal diaries written by George F. Parry dating from the 1860s to the 1880s. Additionally, there is a notebook that he kept while attending the Boston Veterinary Institute and a ledger of his business transactions during the 1870s. Edward R. Barnsley (1906-1989) was an historian from Newtown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He was active in historic preservation, particularly the reconstruction of Pennsbury Manor. The Edward R. Barnsley research files, 1889-1985 (bulk 1941-1985), consist of Barnsley's research notes on local businesses, buildings, and people. There are mostly copies of primary-source documents and secondary-source articles by Barnsley and others on local history topics. There is a small amount of original materials, including original manuscripts written by Barnsley and incoming correspondence.

The Newtown Cooperative Association was a farmer's purchasing cooperative, organized in 1922 to gain bulk discounts on supplies for farmers in Newtown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania. It was absorbed in 1968 by Eastern State Farmers Exchange, which merged with Grange League Federation and became Agway. The Newtown Cooperative Association financial ledgers and minute books, 1922-1962, contain about 30 volumes of various financial records and two minute books.

Newtown Historic Association collection on Edward Hicks and family, 1802-1986 (inclusive)

Abstract:
Edward Hicks (1780-1849) was an American Quaker artist best known for his painting "The Peaceable Kingdom," of which he created more than 60 versions. Hicks lived in Newtown, Bucks County, Pennsylvania from 1811 until his death. The Newtown Historic Association collection on Edward Hicks and family, 1802-1986, includes a fair amount of original primary documents from Edward Hicks and his family members, as well as a large amount of articles, research notes, manuscripts, photocopies of Hicks documents and paintings, and related secondary materials compiled by Hicks scholars. The highlight of the collection is a daybook that was used by Edward Hicks and his son, Isaac W. Hicks, 1833-1885.

The First National Bank and Trust Company of Newtown is the oldest bank in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Founded in 1864 as the First National Bank of Newtown, its first president was Kinsey B. Tomlinson (1864-1867). The First National Bank of Newtown records, 1864-1910, largely consist of checks of the First National Bank of Newtown, mostly cancelled checks, sorted by revenue stamp. Also included are advertisements, financial reports, annual reports and ephemera.
