Abstract:: Mary Katharine Woodworth (1900 – 1988) graduated from Bryn Mawr in 1924 with a Greek and English major and a minor in archaeology. She received her Ph. D in English from Bryn Mawr in 1933. After her book on British poet and genealogist Samuel Egerton Brydges was published in 1935, she began teaching in the English department at Bryn Mawr, and introduced the college's first course on 20th-century writers. She received a Distinguished Teaching Award from Bryn Mawr in 1968 upon her retirement. Her bequest of her entire estate to Bryn Mawr in 1988, which included Chagall's The Violinist, made her the 4th largest contributor to the college at the time. Her papers include personal correspondence, journals, research notes, and financial records. Additionally, the collection includes correspondence between Woodworth and writers – including E. E. Abstract:: Claud Lovat Fraser was born in London on May 15, 1890 to Florence Margaret Fraser, an amateur artist, and Claud Fraser, a city solicitor. He became a clerk at his father's law firm but left in 1911 to seriously pursue art. In 1914, Fraser enlisted with the Inns of Court Officer Training Corps and was quickly commissioned to the 14th Battalion of the Durham Light Infantry. He suffered from poor health and was eventually discharged in 1919. In 1916, he met Grace Crawford and the two were married on February 6, 1917. Miss Crawford was born in Paris in 1889, daughter of Theron Clark Crawford, an American entrepreneur, and a highly trained amateur pianist. During the four years after their marriage, until Fraser's death in 1921, the two worked jointly on a number of theatre projects and had one daughter, Helen Catherine Adeline Lovat Fraser, born in 1918. The Sir Joseph Gold literary manuscript collection comprises 1.6 linear feet of correspondence, manuscripts, publishing files, and publications of mid-twentieth century British and American poets, publishers, and scholars.
