Abstract:
The Gregory C. Wilson collection of African-American postcards and trade cards comprises 1.3 linear feet of postcards, trade cards, printed ephemera, and letters. The majority of the collection consists of nineteenth- and twentieth-century American postcards and trade cards that feature a diverse array of positive and negative images of African Americans. The collection as a whole documents the history of harmful stereotypes that represented social values and mores across the country. Images include ridicule of black religion, harm to black children, scatological humor, poverty, crime, music, and labor, as well as race relations, military service, domestic scenes, transportation, women, and tribal depictions.

The M. Clark Chambers Kay Boyle collection consists of materials collected by Chambers during the fifteen year process of compiling and researching his bibliography of her work. There is also a small group material pertaining to the research and composition of the bibliography as well as a small group original Boyle work and Boyle related ephemera.

Abstract:
Award-winning American author, educator, and political activist Kay Boyle (1902-1992) was a prominent member of the American expatriate modernist circle of the 1920s and 1930s. Boyle's later years are characterized by her extensive political activism. The Kay Boyle letters to Helga Einsele document Boyle's decades-long friendship with criminologist and prison reformer Helga Einsele (1910-2005). The collection comprises letters from Boyle and their enclosures, drafts of Einsele's replies, photographs of Boyle, as well as clippings of articles honoring Boyle at the end of her life and after her death.
