Alfred Fitler Moore Family Papers, 1801-1912 (inclusive)

Abstract:: The Moore family arrived in Philadelphia in the early nineteenth century and opened a wire company in the city. The Alfred Fitler Moore Family Papers consist of correspondence, diaries, financial material, photographs, and artifacts of Joseph and Cecelia (Fitler) Moore; their children William Joseph, Jr, and Alfred; as well as Cecelia's father and brother Alfred Fitler and Alfred Fitler, Jr. The bulk of the collection relates to Alfred Fitler Moore, benefactor of the Alfred Fitler Moore School of Electrical Engineering.

Karl Oscar Hugg papers, 1915-1994 (inclusive)

Abstract:: This collection primarily consists of 187 photographs that document Karl Oscar Hugg’s activities as a World War I pilot for Germany. Before and after the war he studied to be an opera singer, and two concert programs for events he sang at are included. In 1923, Hugg immigrated to the United States, where he worked as a tool and die maker. In 1942 he was faced with possible denaturalization over some pro-German statements he made. The collection includes news clippings from his denaturalization trial in 1942 to 1943, as well as other biographical information.

Conrad J. and Marian Linke papers, 1938-1985 (bulk) 1917-1991 (inclusive)

Abstract:: Conrad Linke was a German-American illustrator and painter from Philadelphia. This collection documents the political and charitable activities of him and his wife, Marian Linke, during the years 1917 to 1991. Prior to World War II they were involved in the movement to maintain American neutrality. After World War II they were involved in war relief efforts for Germany through several organizations they were members of or supported. Included are personal writings, notes and drafts, correspondence, speeches, pamphlets, leaflets, clippings, business reports and ephemera from many of those organizations.

Abstract:: This collection documents the activities of Karl T. Marx and it spans the years 1930 to 1984 with the bulk of the materials dating from 1939 to 1983. He was a German immigrant who was employed in the textile industry and was also a prolific writer in the German and English languages on a variety of subjects. Some of his writings deal with technical issues related to the textile industry. Other writings include aphorisms, prose and articles related to his interest in German-American history. During World War II, he collected political cartoons related to the war from various newspapers that are arranged in two scrapbooks. The collection also includes correspondence, clippings, photographs, ephemera, and films.
